It would be cool if VH did not only Behind the music but also Classic Albums.
Would be real interesting to hear all the "Real" behinds the scenes stuff.Comment

I think Ed got so full of himself that he thought he could put anyone in Van Halen and it still would work. Ed is a drunk who lives in the moment and he's also a creative type. Ed gets drunk and bored of the same lineup. Oh, let's can someone and replace them with the flavor of the month. I think that's how Ed's mind works. Ed would have canned Sheehan to put Wolfie in the band as well and then Ed probably would say Wolf is already as good or better than Sheehan. Pass the Loon. I'm thirsty and Matt, score some more crystal meth or your butt kissing ass is fired!
I think he certainly subscribed to that mindset in 1996 with the pick of Cherone; "hey, it worked for a little while with Sammy, so I'll bet I can put whoever in the frontman slot and it'll still work...after all this BOV1 biz blows over, nobody will give a shit about Dave."
Van Halen 3 barely going gold must have been a wake-up call. The under-attended 2004 Van Hagar tour must have reinforced the notion that settling for Hagar a second time wasn't gonna work, either.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

Can't deny that, Terry. I'm subjective but........it was Roth and Ed, period.
You know drummer bullshit and although Alex isn't Peart, his sound and his groove drove that band. I've always been a fan but I never realized how much of an impact Roth had on the musical direction or evolution of the band's sound or how much he was responsible for it. I bought into the hype, the persona of Diamond Dave......then I heard 5150........if that's what Van Halen without Dave sounds like.......well, the only thing that changed was Spammy joined the band. 3/4th of the band was intact and the boy genius, the serious musician was now free to write anything that he could imagine.
The proof is in the pudding, so to speak.
AVH wasn't a slouch, either. Stuff like Outta Love Again, Light Up The Sky, Girl Gone Bad...the man could play.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

To give Alex his due, he and Ed fit well together...as well they should after having played together so many years. One doesn't need to be a Peart/Bozzio/technician supreme in order to fit well in a band as a drummer. Shit, Charlie Watts is a perfect fit for the Stones, and he doesn't display lightning-speed fills or any such thing.

Alex was one of my earliest influences, one of the few I bothered to learn note for note.Originally posted by vandeleurE- Jesus . Playing both sides because he didnt understand the argument in the first place :DComment

...I'm going to have to disagree with most of you here and say I'd love to hear what VH would sound like with Sheehan. Acrobatics aside, he's one of the most solid bassists on the planet. I think a better rhythm section would (likely) challenge EVH, not hinder him...
There's a NAMM video floating around of Ed and Billy jamming from several years ago, and it sounds pretty cool, actually...Originally posted by conmee
If anyone even thinks about deleting the Muff Thread they are banned.... no questions asked.

But Dreams? Fuck That.
Also noticed a lot more chorus saturation in Ed's sound...didn't like it....
Musically speaking there were a few good points on 5150, but that's it.
1984 is a classic album...5150 has been forgotten. Enough said.Comment

OOOoooh Yeaaahhhh....
We can't get CVH on video unless it's a boot, but they sure rushed that Live Without A Singer video out fast enough!
Fuckers! They only had one album, and they had to do a live video with Spamloaf, just to showcase the new guy!
Pricks!
Whichever one of those homo's came up with the 5150 walk should be water-boarded!!!!Comment
