Thank you for another proof for Ed's irreplaceability. As long as he's not able to create, the band can't function. Van Halen can exist without Dave, without Mike or even without Alex (nobody would even notice). But there's no Van Halen without Eddie. It's so simple.

he said "new album" in one of his earlier interviews. most of this is nothing new. the title of the thread is the only real news that Ed offered, which was that he and Dave have been meeting to talk about the new music.

this holds a lot more credibility than telling people during the tour (while trying to sell tickets) that you're gonna record something together after the tour. they could have just gone their separate ways, but instead have actually started to act like they are in a band together. Maybe they both finally realize that they are better together than apart.
