Last weekend VH-1 classic had Kiss on, showed their documentary & concerts. People talk about Daves voice, have they heard Pauls??! Train wreck!
In the Doc, Gene talks about Vincent saying how he didn't like him to much because of his playing style. He's not impressed by fast finger work, so why did he want Eddie in the band?

Because, back in the day, Eddie could put a boogie-groove to any guitar riff, and add a little extra emotion to any guitar lick. Vincent was just lame.

I'm not convinced they would make boat loads of cash. this sort of packaging is more expensive to produce, and sells for more money. And your average VH fan probably couldn't care less. on the other hand, record companies love people like me.

for market comparison, go check out total sales for U2 "remastered/expanded" Joshua Tree. what does that tell ya? boat loads of cash?

Scheme Gene didn't want Eddie in Kiss. Never. He told him flat out "you are too fast, Kiss is meat and potatoes". It was Ed that wanted in. This is old school VH. The famous limo ride. Anthony describing how Gene would wear those boots, making him 8 feet tall, when they were doing demos. Dave had "jealousy" over Edwardo wanting in Kiss, because that, quite frankly, would leave Dave w/o Ed. And also..Ed was his band mate AND friend....It was a "fuck you" to Dave from Day 1. Thankfully Ed took Genes advice and went along with Roth and told Ed to be dedicated to the music and not so much what Dave was doing "character wise". Make good music. Gene likes to think he discovered VH. There are so many things wrong with that statement. But no matter how you argue it. VH discovered VH.

A Van Halen 1 produced by him would have been good rather than spectacular. In the demos he polluted them with the mediocrity of Kiss.

It's funny, because I've had a few people ask me that same question about piece of shit kiss 'discovering' VH, lately... What the fuck? You only have to compare early bootlegs to the Gene demos.

He somehow managed to strip out a lot of everything that was amazing about the band. Ted Templeman who wasn't really a rock producer up to this point but he immediately realized that all they needed was someone to capture their live sound.

Kiss were just a gimmicky novelty act.

2. You actually paid to see Kiss without Ace and Peter.
3. You think Dave was a shadow of himself but Kiss was not with two scabs
in the band.
