my guess is the DAVE is totally against it...he said something like "it's the same thing with my pants...it's hard to squeeze it all in..."

Other than the US Festival and Largo '82, there really are no Pro-shot videos of the CVH era.... And I know from previous interviews that Ed hates the US Festival show 'cause they were so hammered....
And in reference to the '07-'08 tour, from what Ed said after questions were raised about releasing a DVD, he said something along the lines of "we just finished the tour, why would we release a DVD ??"....

I would hardly call any of the South American concerts "pro-shots"....Eat Us And Smile - The Originals

I just finished Phil Lesh's, "Searching For The Sound". He credits letting the audience tape their shows as making The Dead as success as they were.
I never understood why a band like Van Halen, who could fucking bring it live, never took that approach or any great live band, for that matter.
It forms a community and gets your music circulated....granted, I don't think The Dead ever did the same show twice but could you imagine having soundboard recordings or properly taped CVH shows, from any tour.
Bruce Springsteen used to have a similar view of tapers back in the 70's, and a lot of quality soundboards of his shows from that era still exist. He changed his mind in the 80's, probably after some pressure from the Columbia records management.
And I believe U2 has said that they could care less about bootlegs, as long as its just fans trading. They don't like people selling tapes, of course. Not that anybody has to buy boots anymore, thanks to the internet.
Seems a healthy way to look at it. Van Halen should consider that.Last edited by FORD; 02-07-2010, 06:13 PM.Eat Us And Smile

And with the Dead, it wasn't just the audience recordings, but they had soundboard tapes from most, if not all of their shows. There are "new" Dead live albums being released every year, and hundreds more circulating as bootlegs. I've got one show from 87 that even sounds like a "professional" live album, with the crowd mixed in and everything. I'm not sure why Arista (their label at the time) didn't release it, since it's a lot better than the official "Without A Net" CD released in 1990 (Definitely NOT to be confused with the Van Hagar video of the same name)

I'd happily fork over $100 for a DVD of this show"Bumper sticker on my rocket's ass: go home, the earth is full." DLRComment

I'll always dig the 6-pack and what the band represented back in those days.
Without Roth by his side, Ed is pretty much useless to me...and even with Roth back in the fold, Eddie (despite the rehab and cosmetic sanding) isn't as capable as he used to be.
Would be happy to see the band put out some new music that smacked of a sincere effort and be proven wrong, but from what I can see Eddie only works these days when he needs a big cash fix.
I could really give a shit how many hundreds of hours of material he's got squirreled away in his home studio; useless if he won't let us hear it.
Fuck's sake, there were, like 3 or so official live releases with Hagar in various formats, but ziltch with Roth. The only upside to having to hunt down CVH boots is that Eddie ain't making a nickel from them - if Mr. Fingers doesn't want to give the fans what they want, fuck him. I have no compunctions of circumventing both his apparent desire for CVH live material not to be heard as well as his bank account by even paying for CVH boots when necessary.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

I don't remember this. I do remember the footage from the lost weekend, what little there was anyway. Anybody else know about this?RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE

I checked the VH Encyclopedia...
I have an old VHS boot from Montreal '84... There's at least one song from that show on Youtube (Unchained), haven't searched lately....
The Lost Weekend winner was done in Detroit, but that was only a few minutes of ATBL....
Then the Donnington show for the Monsters of Rock....
Other than that, I don't believe there were any other shows....Eat Us And Smile - The Originals
