Starwood's rumor talk seems very plausible and even believable actually. However, as stated already in this thread, I find it hard to believe that Dave would remain silent in the face of a 1996-style MTV jerk-off spurning by the sisters. And Ed proclaiming that "Dave doesn't have it anymore" would put him in a state of fucking dementia (again, somewhat believable). Anyone who knows anything Van Halen, and I'm counting even the staunchest Van Hagar loving sheep at the Links, know that it was largely Dave's vocals and Alex's drumming that carried the 2007 tour as Ed's skills slowly eroded with his drinking before everyones' naked, steaming eyes. Deep down, I think even Ed and Janey are more lucid than that! Alex certainly is for fucks' sake...

Perhaps, yet there also might be another reason for Dave's silence: simple hubris. The knowledge that he carried the band on it's tour of 2007-08 may be the very thing keeping him from publicly admitting he is no longer involved, and it stems from the same wounded arrogance that surfaced after the MTV show. Only this time (and at this late date), he may have come to the astute conclusion that not many people outside of a warped fan base are really concerned one way or another if Van Halen exists. After all, if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it (or particularly care)...Besides, by opening up his mouth about the inner workings of things he could only damage what little amount of dignity he and the band have left, let alone the arguable legacy of both.
