Dave didn't like Eddie self producing

Not news to anyone here really. Although a cool old clip of Dave. That 5150 converted garage has caused nothing but problems for the mighty Van Halen & once great Eddie Van Halen. Maybe it is built on top of an Indian burial ground or something. Cursed from the get-go. It caused problems in 1985, 1996, 2000...and I wonder what type of friction it's causing now.

He sounds stoned & full of cheeseburgers. Very Spicoli esque.

He's stoned big time. That's awesome. The audio is fucked up on that a little. I have that on some compilation DVD and it's much better than that.

Assuming it is true, I can't say as I would disagree with Dave for not liking Eddie self-producing.

The sonic results of Ed behind the board sound fucking abysmal.

Considering the band recorded 1984 at 5150 and that took a year to do, if they are recording an album and with the length of time thats taking, maybe ed again is recording in 5150!

                They needed a strong producer.

Eddie has totally lost his way in song writing. I think he knows that too or at least has lost his confidence.

Objectively Roth was the last one of them to write good songs with the DLR Band album and that was 13 years ago. He showed then at least he could take good riffs and come up with great vocal melodies but that was with him as boss.

My guess is that there is a whole bunch of people wanting to do another big money making tour next year but they can't work out a way of writing 10 songs.

If I was managing it I would get them to go back to the old unrecorded stuff and rework the last 5 of them or so that still have some legs, do a few covers and one or two new ones.

In other words kind of Diver Down 2. I could be wrong but I think that is the best you could ever hope to get at this point...

And i would also tell him to go down the hill and jam with some musos in an LA Club for some practice/inspiration and for someone different then wolf-twinkie and Al.I cant understand why the guy couldnt showup 'unannounced' and jam with some muscians, maybe then he could feel a little magic and get a bit nostalgic of when VH uused to play back in the old club days.If hes afraid of being mobbed, those days are wayyyyyyyy over.

Not sure how being blown away by a bunch of younger guitarists or getting his dick sucked for his past glories for the 1 millionth time would help.

You are probably right on the song writing bit. They can't put out an album because they don't have the songs.

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. Without a strong producer to crack the whip and keep things on track, you are just going to get a bunch of egos fighting each other and then Eddie kicks everyone from his 5150 club house.

too bad that Dave didn't follow his own rules and produced Skyscraper himself...
