There are way too many "what if's?" hiding in this "insider" statement. It seems like every time some information gets offered up, it comes along with a bunch of caveats and disclaimers that almost serve to discredit the statement completely.

Until the word parsing stops, I won't believe a goddamn thing.
Always the same nameless, faceless 'inside' sources...unless someone is willing to go on record, this latest 'update' could just be a composite of wishful thinking.

About the only two times I can remember of the last decades' worth of rumors actually panning out into something were 1) the rumblings in the fall of 2003 that Hagar was rejoining the band for a tour the following year and 2) the contention around RnRHoF time 2007 that Dave would still be rejoining the band but everything would be postponed until later in the year to give Ed time to dry out.

There was a third, as well. It was rumored that Ed was working on the soundtrack for a porn film, and no one (including me) believed it. About 6-7 months later, Sacred Sin was released to the general indifference of the public. The music was awful, boiling down to rewrites of "Respect The Wind" performed with an annoying sustainer and diminished ability, due to an apparent overindulgence in some sort of substance. As for the film itself, the term "boner-remover" sums things up.

Well, considering that they are going with a more pop-oriented producer, I would expect the new album to still be hard rock VH -- but more 1984 than Van Halen 1.

Which is not a bad thing. Roth has the ability to make pop rock songs brim with the old VH attitude.

It is a pretty easy recipe. If Edward would stop with the wah wah and use the bridge pickup only, it has a 99% better chance of sounding better than the last 20 years.

This is what I want to hear from Van Halen. Something New. Mighty implies "THE PRESENT". Get the Fuck on with it. Rock.
