My inside sources tell me that Van Halen is currently filming a doc in the same vein as Metallica's Some Kind of Monster complete with therapy sessions and a reunion w/ an original ex-member. EPIC!
What are the chances VH is documenting this whole "reunion"/ album thing...?

Undoubtedly I'd watch it, but I don't care for the "scripted realism" of "reality" tv and such a documentary would all too easily lend itself to such treatment.
Beyond this, the one thing Van Halen still has going for it (frustrating as it can be for those who are interested in what the band is up to) is an air of mystery. I mean, any delusions about what Metallica stood for or represented were laid bare with the Some Kind of Monster film. I'm not a huge Metallica fan by any means, and it was still pretty painful to have the curtain drawn back and see a band that initially became famous for an uncompromising attitude towards their music (combined with relentless touring and eschewing music videos) had morphed into a bunch of millionaire businessmen reliant on Pro-Tools, career coaches, record execs and therapy...all to make a rock album. It had all the charm of watching sausage being made.
This current incarnation of Van Halen may well be utilizing the same methods Metallica did in the film. Perhaps believing that the original CVH spirit is still the dominating force is a case of self-delusion. However, it's one thing as a fan these days to believe that spirit still exists despite circumstantial evidence to the contrary (in the absence of tangible inside information - as opposed to online gossip - such beliefs are still possible however improbable) and quite another thing to have one's darkest suspicions confirmed.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

Within the first 10 minutes of Some Kind Of Monster, I felt really bad for every single Metallica fan in the world. They were ashamed and crushed in exasperating embarassment!
I know Van Halen are a pack of dysfunctional fucks and all.....especially now with Jake Harper on bass, but come on!! That would be leaning too far into the estrogen pit!
'Some Kind Of Monster' made "Steel Magnolias' look like 'Scarface' for fucks sake!!!

well, i personally think that there is a slim chance in hell that they are doing that type of documenting...so am not going to spend too much time being concerned about it.“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” ~~Maria RobinsonComment

Gotta admit their comic timing in this was great. I have a bootleg DVD from their South American leg of the tour, and I laughed like fucking hell. If they ever fail as musicians, (ha), they can always get a career in showbiz as comedians! :DComment
