I think you're right. However, CVH definitely doesn't have the place they should have, largely due to Sped - the nostalgia/ classic rock market is huge, and they're just not staking their place in it. To the average 13 year old discovering rock/metal, Motley Crue are probably the pivotal early '80s band. We know that that is in no way the case, but unless Ed actually invests in his legacy it will remain so.

Although I dig the Crue's early work, I am by no means a sheep.
But dont you think some of the reason they stay "relevant" is because even though they hate each other they suck it up and play because they belong together? I mean Tommy and Vince fucking loathe each other. And although Lee has other "musical" endeavors he always hits the road with the boys when its time. Hell, they even record new shit from time to time.
Not a bad blueprint for a band, eh?Fuck Scott Weiland. Fucking asshole. I get trashed all the time and still go to work. And my job sucks ass. -ODShowtimeComment

I think spEd subscribes to the mythological theory that one should keep one's activities as a band completely under wraps. Like Led Zeppelin did in the 70s. No press. No interviews about current business.
Only problem is that he takes it too far, and does not think VH fans are relevant.
Has he ever thanked his fans? EVER? If so I do not recall. Seems the only real interaction he has (at least publicly) is just to shill for tennis shoes or amps. He needs to go to school with Iron Maiden or Garth Brooks as his teachers, so he can learn about public image, marketing, fan interaction, etc.
I recall in the late 90s when Garth made some big deal about his "millionth fan" coming to see him live, or something like that. He fucking treated that fan like a GOD the day of the show! He made country music history by showing up at Fan Fair in Gnashville UNANNOUNCED, and then sitting at a table signing autographs, posing for pictures with, and talking to FANS for like 27 hours straight!
Kiss may be the king of Rock Merchandisers, but Iron Maiden are the kings of Rock Fan Interaction.
Garth Brooks may well be the King of MUSIC Fan Interaction (of any genre).
Ed whines about how he is "just a musician", and crap like that.
VH FANS bought him his house, his toys, most likely Val and as a result Wolfy.
He should be doing stuff to thank US, THE FANS for having the life he does on Howdy-Doody Mountain!
Well, fuck, if he hates being in the public eye so much (as he obviously does), why the fucking doesn't he just fucking retire?
Announce publicly he will never tour or perform in public again!
It would be the same as what is going on now, but at least everyone would know what the score is, and there would be no wondering about "when is the album going to be released?" or "When are they going to tour again?".
Motley Spue and Posin BOTH have WAY more of a high profile these days in the Classic Rock culture.
Van Halen is so out of the public eye they may as well be retired. He supposedly married some kind of "publicist", yet there is no publicity about VH at all these days!
I (and everyone else who are fans of CVH) find it all to be a bunch of fucking bullshit.Comment
