If you know Trunk and that show, you know they consider themselves to be the source of "all things hard rock and metal." They don't seperate hard rock from metal and consider it all to be in one lump category. That being said, there is no way Roth shouldn't be at the top of this list. I still maintain when Van Halen 1 came out in the era of disco, it was sure enough heavy metal.

I mean, personally the idea of subcategorizing music into various minute genres isn't something I go for, but I never considered Aerosmith OR Van Halen as metal bands, so Tyler and Roth are out...then you get into all these splitting-hairs scenarios of "the difference between a great heavy metal SINGER versus a great heavy metal FRONTMAN"...I mean, if you can't really sing well, or at the very least have a distinctive voice that isn't irritating, who gives a fuck how great you looked when you said "let's rock and roll some more!"? Vince Neil made a decent living at it, but does that in itself make him a great frontman?
Whatever. Everyone knows Jon Bon Jovi fucking RULES!Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

It's a weekly time filler on VH 1 Classic. The whole MTV family of programming really is stupid. MTV doesn't play music, VH 1 plays Behind The Music episodes about rappers more suited to BET, so if you are looking for hard rock music, you are stuck with VH 1 Classic. In some parts of the country, you get it with basic cable. Not so in my area, however.

I always thought of "Metal" as not only the music but the spirit and attitude as well, which is why i always thought of VH, especially in the early days, as metal. By today's terms, i'm not sure who in 1978 would have qualified as heavy metal. Even Sabath's Technical Ecstacy and Never Say Die were not heavy albums.RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE

I agree with you about your thoughts on "Metal", though.

Is the list limited to metal? If so, Roth never fronted a metal band. And if it isn't limited to metal, then forgetting to include Freddie Mercury is just plain stupid. And I sure as hell would have taken Alice Cooper, James Brown or Roger Daltrey over that nitwit Steven Tyler.
Roger Daltrey is a legend - I was watching the Who's Live at Kilburn (1977) DVD a couple of weeks ago. Now that's a frontman.Comment
