I've got my station's Music Director looking into the release of a VH single. I'll let y'all know if I get any updates.

    Amen,

      Nicely played.
Sounds more like Wham's old sales campaign.

LOL It is unbelievable isn't it? It's been said a million times, but I gotta say it again. You know they have to have a ton of live audio and video they could release. It would sell like hotcakes. We would both win. I'm sure there is a plethora of outtakes and unreleased tracks. They would get a shit load of money and the fans would get some gems. But why would the insane fuckin VH sisters ever do that?? They won't cause they are cocks.

You know I was reading Melodicrock.com and Andrew made a list of bands best albums and for VH he named 1984,5150,fuck & balance.Once again, bands best albums. Now, I'm all for personal opinion and if those are his favorite albums that's fine but how can you make a list of VH's best work without mentioning VH1 or FW? I mean, even if you personally HATE those albums, their style isn't for you, how can someone not recognize they are more creative/technically better than the later albums?

Without being too analytical, I think the reason that people [like him] seem to think the spammy-era albums are "better" is because of the notion that the songwriting (as in music) has somehow matured, and I would agree with that to the extent that I think aftershock is a pretty decent tune but poundcake is sort of boring. Likewise, This dream is over has some cool riffs while the chorus is pretty boring.

Out of the spam-era albums, each album has maybe 3-4 songs that I personally care to listen to, compared to CVH, with the exception of some of the covers on DD, there really isn't any song that I just skip.

Musical "maturity" aside, I would rate CVH as vastly superior to SVH because lets face it, a 60% per-album "filler" content is just ridiculous.

To that end I shall attempt to list the SVH era songs I do not hate:

good enough, get up, summer nights, 5150..

I can tolerate a few off of ou812 until the chorus in most cases.. just too cheesy, let's say 3.

poundcake because of the drill, judgement day, maybe one other.. maybe right now..

I like seventh seal - neat riffage, don't tell me, aftershock, baluchioweriojglkdgium, maybe feelin..

                  Of course, human's being.

That makes about 17 songs that I like.

There are roughly 61 CVH songs on their first 6 albums and of those, the only ones i really dont care for are:

                  dancing in the street
where have all the good times gone
                  1984
                  sunday afternoon in the park

                  So, 61 minus 4 is 57.

BUT WAIT! Let's not forget the DLR songs for the VHBO cd and we're up to 59 songs! I really like those two songs, and DLR's singing is balls-out.

Mathematically speaking CVH is 3.47 times better, so let's round that up to three and a half times better than spam-van halen.

not surprisingly, the record sales also indicate this fact.

Perhaps that was too analytical, but that's my honest take on all of it.

It sounds like the [uninformed member of society] at melodicrock simply hasn't run the numbers and is living in denial.

Sammy era lyrics are considered "mature" by those who were too PC to accept bawdy, male oriented lyrics that more often than not referred only to sex and not "love". You may not be old enough to remember but CVH rocked the "acceptable" boat. REALLY rocked the boat. Here's not only the most off color lyrics heard across the board in their albums, but delivered by a barely clothed guy in spandex with moves that would make Elvis blush. Oh yes, respectable people would have rejoiced when Spammy showed up singing of moon, spoon and June dressed in very unsexy clown attire. It was dumbed down rock.

                    Oh dear.

I absolutely hate Get Up, to me that's the most worthless piece of shit of a song VH ever recorded, a half assed, no quarter assed garage metal band could come up with better lyrics. I agree with 60% filler, the problem I have with Van Hagar is the fact that without Dave the band lost too much personality, songs like the get up atrocity, AFU, Source Of Infection, Man On A Mission, Big Fat Money...that's just below VH. I realize that the music was still good, but Sammy drags the whole thing down. Sammy is an AOR singer, and just like all the Survivor and Foreigner bullshit, the attitude just isn't there. I'm only 19, but I really have to wonder if people who grew up in that era really thought shit like Loverboy's Turn Me Loose was badass with attitude? Really?

I do agree that there were some great riffs from the era, and alot of the songs you mentioned are really good. It's just the lyrics...for me I don't even care about the cliches it's just they're so phoned in and empty. And while Eddie could still write good songs I think his soloing during the Van Hagar years sucks. What I'm saying is, is even if he likes that era more, I've never heard anyone list those albums as VH's best work, I guess it comes down to this: How can someone make a list of VH's "best work" without mentioning the first album? What the fuck?????????????

I think what this guy is saying is exactly correct you see to some musical "Maturity" is the description of older bands changing thier style to appeal to the demographic that were the ones who originally grew with them, spent the money and made them rich, writing music that appeales to a average 13 -17 yr old ( thats what they think of thier older fans ) and thier simple needs of uninvolved music that doesn't have any complicated imagery, so instead of writing what is good for what they are they try and be what they were and they aren't) because 13 year olds buy more albums that 35 to 40 demographic does.

Some call this selling out or maturity, trying real hard to write what they used to write, that isn't about what they are now, or ever were,,, what they need to be..yeah maturity that's it.

It puts new money on the table and aquires new fans that will stick with this new sound for about 1 year.

I am not saying VH sold out I am saying they became more Mature with the addition of Hagar....yeah that's the ticket.
