At present... VH doesn't have anything for sale that I have an interest in buying...

When or if... the day arrives and they actually have a "new" product to offer, then I'll assess the ROI, if any and decide. Right now... $300-400 would buy me some golf clubs that will give me a few years of enjoyment. A two hour concert of songs I've heard hundreds/thousands of times just ain't gonna cut it in my budget.

Seriously... VH could sell out arenas, even do multi-night shows in large cities with pricing at $50 - $75 a ticket max. The band/promoters would still make money, maybe not the hundreds of millions... but what the fuck. In this economy, it would fly and fly easily. The venues and merchandisers would make their killings on $9 beers and $40 dollar shirts.

Nobody loses... and the cash strapped fans get a good value for their hard earned money. Personally I think it's damned time this band work for their dinner again...

I guess you are quoting that in Upsidedownland dollars but if it had been US dollars then the equivalent of $38.50 in 2008 would have been $70.

This inflation calculator uses the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to measure the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar over time. It provides money comparisons from the past to present or any time between. Consumer inflation in the United States rose 2.3% annually through April, down from 2.4% in the prior period, according to a Labor

Actually it's almost the same in Aussie dollars.

So inflation over 20 years was almost exactly the same in Australia as the US, coincidence or do politicians really not make any difference?

Those ILAA packages is another thing that needs to be improved upon from the last tour...

I realize they sold pretty well, and yes, a possible chance to listen to the soundcheck would be cool, but to charge those prices and offer no meet and greet is absolutely ridiculous....

I missed the reunion last time around.......still debating whether or not to see them this time around..........

Paying a buck fifty to see 3/4's of the band.......too much money, IMO!

Shit I just forked out 250 beans for this Italian guy named Patrizio. But, but, but, there's only 200 of us going and it's at a news studio. The seating is general admission (what ever happened to general admission anyway?) and the stage is in the round. It's kinda like Elvis's '68 comeback special. This dude is like Elvis and Sanatra but really Italian and young and one hell of a singer and musician. He's got a full orchestra and he's super classy. He best be wearing some leather for that price or at least let us cop a feel....ya know what I'm say'in? Now that's what I'm talk'in about. To think we paid only 10 bucks back in the day for these shows....makes you think twice or be very selective.

But then again my dad was buy'in and fly'in.....we were only 15 when we started going to real rock concerts. My first arena show was Cheap Trick. Who was everyones first concert? The rest is history......to be continued.....Lord knows it's not the end, not yet.

If the fabled 2012 tour ever happens, what would you be willing to fork out?

yeah, current exchange rates notwithstanding, i just did a quick calc based on my wage and cost of living over the 20 years. in 88, it would take me 3 hours work to make forty bucks, in 08, 3 hours work was about one fiddy.

It was shocking, I can't even remember what you were meant to get, a fucking Van Halen pencil or something as I said I never bothered.

The reason I paid so much was to get near the front and I had already paid for flights and a hotel so it seemed dumb to start trying to save money on the tickets at that point.

Of course all this was back before we were raped by the bankers....

I believe the more expensive of the two got you at the soundcheck and a 1st five rows seat, whereas the cheaper one didn't have the soundcheck and a 1st 10 rows seat...

Pretty sure both of them included food & drinks backstage & some swag....

But none of them included a meet and greet, which nowadays is basically a given for those backstage packages...

Of course, "nowadays" and "Van Halen" aren't exactly compatible....

We were in the front 10 rows, row 6 I think. Now I'm worried I may have missed out on some free booze.

Personally I wouldn't queue for ages to get a program signed by Wolfgang Van Halen who would no doubt have been the one wheeled out. Actually I probably wouldn't for any of the rest of them to be honest although I realise I'm in a bit of a minority with that attitude.

I've never asked anyone to sign anything and there is nothing in 20 seconds that I could say to any of them that would interest them or me in that kind of situation.

The only person to ever do so IMHO was a poster called Catfish before the reunion when he shouted at Alex 'Van Halen are NOTHING without Roth' a couple of times in the street upsetting him and causing a commotion. The thought of that still amuses me.

I just remembered I hung around for 10 minutes recently to get a picture taken with Mike Monroe because the SM was a big fan so maybe I'm full of shit.
