There was something eerily similar to Sheen's melt down and public antics that immediately reminded me of Ed's 2004 - 2007 antics of curing cancer, holey boots and porn goddesses. Even that strange, pasty, plastic botox look both of them seemed to have at the peak of their psychotic episodes...

Not much insight into anything related to Van Halen... due to lack of any public acknowledgements.

I guess in the speculation zone... you could draw some conclusions.

Madonna signed a 10 yr deal for touring, merchandising, fan clubs, etc with Live Nation under Azoff in 2007 along with Nickleback, U2 & JayZ. Van Halen was already on board with Azoff then and they lured Eddie off his death march for the 2007/2008 tour. Or forced it... contractually. So VH has some sort of deal with Live Nation.

Under Live Nation's 360 plan they appear to be linking up with UMG & Interscope to fill in the lack of record company ability. Allegedly Van Halen signed with Interscope a few weeks ago... at least a picture of the band and execs was leaked. But not a word officially from anyone directly involved... ??

Is it the Van Halen dumbass promotions department that keep missing the mark?

Interscope publicly confirmed signing Madonna... plus have announced a single release in January, Super Bowl appearance in February followed by an album release in March.

Mean while back on Howdy Doody Mountain... we've got an alleged album in the can, alleged tour schedule sputterings, alleged record deal signings, alleged single simmering somewhere, a picture... but Ed's still locked in the bathroom perfecting the solo for Two Burritos and Root Beer Float...

Ed's is buddies with Charlie Sheen... is this what they call "Winning"... "Tiger Blood"... WTF?

And, the only way anyone can be sure they are signed to anyone, or that they have an album in the can, or they are going to tour, is if Interscope actually makes an announcement about them signing a deal, or if an album somehow gets actually released, or Ticketbastard suddenly announces dates and begins selling tickets....and even THAT is no guarantee a fucking tour will even happen. Much less be completed.

I know exactly jack shit about the current "record" business. But I know this - if I was in this band and I had a living, breathing and singing David Lee Roth fronting this band and he'd laid down 8 or 10 or 12 tracks then I'd be screaming it off the rooftops to anybody that'd listen to me! But then again, we're talking about Eddie. Goddammit, why in the hell can't he just suck it up, release everything he has, get paid and piss off? Bottom line is that this band has a limited shelf life. These guys are NOT gonna be jumping around on a stage 10 years from now. Dave may be still be out there giving the fans what they want. But Eddie ain't gonna be a part of it, no way.

Maybe the current VH pr strategy is simply not to talk about anything until there is something to talk about.

VH having an album in the can means nothing unless it's released. Plans for a future tour mean nothing until tickets go on sale.

Not saying that stuff to be glib. It's just where the band is today. The current entity known as Van Halen is not reliable. As a result of their own misfires over the last decade and a half, even if they WERE to hold a press conference and announce that a new album was forthcoming and a tour to follow, I wouldn't be willing to lay odds on either of those things actually coming to fruition until they actually came to pass. This attitude is directly resultant from years of Van Halen fucking up. Even with Roth back on board, this band no longer gets the benefit of the doubt far as their word and credibility goes.

If they do release an album and tour to promote it, fucking great. I'll get a copy and some tickets. If not, it's no longer the massive bummer the debacle of 1996 was. Too many years and too much bullshit have transpired since then, and my anticipatory goodwill has been eroded.

Frankly, I think this lot are a bit past it re: anything they can do today measuring up to the standards of 1974 to 1984. I doubt they're particularly hungry again, hence the sweet ass time they've taken since the last tour ended. The suspicion is any further activity from this band will result only from a desire to keep the coffers full, rather than a sincere desire to create compelling new music.

We'll see (or not).

A bit like being a VH fan back in the early 80s in the UK - you only knew a new album was out when you stumbled across it in a store ... because they were never well-enough known here / never had enough 'hits' to be rumour worthy. They never got any publicity here from Warners in advance of an actual album being a physical reality. In those pre-internet days, I remember having to join the fan club who mailed out stuff from some office in Hollywood that took so long to arrive it must've been sent by boat or something.

So, back to the future it is ...
