Depends on your definition of "good songs".
As good as anything on the first four albums? Probably not.
As good as "Jump", "I'll Wait" or "Dancing In The Streets" ? Possibly.
Better than anything Van Hagar ever recorded? Definitely.
Having said that, they were definitely a "rush job" and Dave wasn't allowed to properly get his vocal cords in shape. Had there been a complete Van HALEN album in 1997 or 1998, it would have been much better results. Indeed, the DLR band album has much better vocal performances, despite the lack of production. And the 2003 "Diamond Dave" album is 90% covers, but Dave sings great on all of them.
This being the case, I'm optimistic about the fact that it has taken almost 4 years for the "reunited" Van Halen to make a record, because history indicates that should favor Dave's performance.
