Wasn't sure where to put it. He gets the newsletter. Small tid bit about Dave recently recording covers, possibly for the new album. Thoughts?

COVERING" VAN HALEN
Well, Van Halen fans are starting to buzz louder and louder as reports are surfacing that Eddie, Alex, Dave and Wolfie are in the mixing stages of what will be the long-awaited new album. Slash is one of those buzzing, as he dished that one of the guys who works for him is also doing some work with VH and tipped him off to that.

There are some other interesting rumors circulating on just what music will be hitting the streets this time. Some Nasty spies on the east coast claim that Dave was heard recording there early in the year before the band was doing their thing in LA.

Now, the fun part...

If you remember, over the years Van Halen did some covers and totally Van Halenized them, from "You Really Got Me", to "Dancin In The Streets" and "Pretty Women", not to mention Roth's versions of "California Girls" and "Just A Gigolo". Was Dave overheard singing a number of other "covers"? ... and could Van Halen's new release contain several covers this time around???

We will keep our eyes and ears peeled to see if we hear more on this one and, in the meantime, if you want to see VH live and will be in Australia, in late September the band is headlining the Soundwave Revolution in Brisbane the 24th, Sydney the 25th, Melbourne the 30th and Adelaide on October 1st.

Regardless, this yet is more speculative spitballing, something that has gone on in the VH In The Studio thread (with far more insight) since word leaked out that the band might have been recording. And that is where this belongs.

They will not make a cover album. Dave uses those to just warm up his voice and the audience. And Eddie agrees.

I am in LA this week. Anything I can do about a Swag Bag? I have never been around Howdy Doodie Mountain and do not even know it's address...but if you want me to stalk...send it to me. I will not be going to Pasadena unless a little old lady invites me, and would rather go to the Library there than his house of course. But apparently you can drive by 5150. Stars are everywhere (I grew up here) so might even be in a "LIVE" studio audience. Lol just give me a quest.

Ed lives on Coldwater Creek Canyon Road just down the hill and a bit north of Mulholland Drive. The road that goes up to his house is on the side of the road right where it makes a pretty sharp turn. There are some of those concrete freeway type partitions to keep people from shortcutting the turn by driving off the road. There isn't much to see, just a road going up the hill. There are some mail boxes but that road goes to several other residences and not just Ed's.

I just checked out the google road shot and there is a trash can. I wonder if that's Ed's trash?

I visited Ed's place while I was out in L.A. on vacation last fall.

There's not much to see. I took the wife and kids up to his front gate, took some pictures, debated about pushing the gate intercom just for shits and giggles to see what happened...then I started feeling like a stalker and we left.

I don't know what I was really expecting. It's not like his gate was painted red, black, and white or some shit like that....

I'd post up some pics if I wasn't paranoid about putting myself on display on the interweb in front of you miscreants...

Last time I was in LA, I didn't have much time... But I did have enough time to cruise around, and when I drove down Sunset Blvd. and stopped at the intersection right in front of the Whisky, I couldn't stop smiling.... The drivers around me probably thought I was getting my helmet shined....

Van Halen - it's not much, but the only thing new I've heard is that there is talk of a single maybe going to radio in time for 4th July.
