Not sure about the spin review .... listened to ADKOT a couple of times now and hey its not enough to get a decent opinion obviously ... but that review seems abit down on dave .
Hey dave doesnt sound like 1978 no shit .... i think he sounds better now than he has done in years .
Stuff like "And come to think of it, the few seemingly botched vocal takes left on the record may be how the brothers Van Halen exact their revenge these days" is just total bullshit
I think the cd is what we asked for CVH with a bit of an upgrade ....heigh speed low drag ...to quote some 2am drunk ...
My review ........It fucking rocks better than i dared dream of in my most outrageous dream , the one were katy perry and rihanna are playing pool in my local pub and they ask me to play strip pool with them ... then this album comes on the juke box ...i then think to my self i must be dreaming VH could never sound this good ....obviously the pool game could happen .
Any way it fucking rocks all four bring their A game ... fuck what happens now i have this forever... what ever soap opera happens they gave us this .
But hey all bets are off ... they did this they could just about do anything !fuck your fucking framingComment

Here's part one of my review of 'A Different Kind of Truth.'
Epilogue:
IT WAS A ROCK AND ROLL KIND OF DAY.
How did I know it was a rock and roll kind of day? I knew it was a rock and roll kind of day when I woke up and every little thing somehow related to Van Halen. Got a bum elbow with chronic tendonitis. Been bothering me a lot lately. Naturally, that relates to ‘Tattoo,’ the first single from Van Halen’s latest album: ‘A Different Kind of Truth. “I've got Elvis on my elbow…when I flex, Elvis talks…” Got a bum right foot. I’m a big runner. Run every day when the weather allows. My middle-age body is showing its wear and tear. Guess what? Dave’s feet hurt him every day – always have (if you don’t believe me, read his book: ‘Crazy From The Heat’). It was a rock and roll kind of day. I didn’t feel 100% percent – hadn’t had my coffee yet, and undoubtedly wouldn’t look as cool as Dave drinking his on the streets of New York City when I did – but it was a rock and roll kind of day nonetheless. Didn’t have to feel 100%. Didn’t need to – hell, didn’t even want to. But more on that later. The bottom line is, today was the day. THE day, you dig? 28 some years in the making. David Lee Roth was at last behind the microphone on a full-length Van Halen release, and it didn’t matter how good or bad I was feeling. I could have been throwing up my pancreas. Wouldn’t matter. Today was the day.
A rock and roll kind of day.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH
I’m not going to spend a lot of time outlining the hows and whys of my Van Halen addiction. Those who know me know the story. Some have lived it. Some may want to forget it. Hit puberty right when Van Halen was ruling the world for the first time – that pretty much says it all. They provided the defining soundtrack to my young and naïve life, just as they did for countless other teenagers in the glorious decade known as ‘The ‘80’s.’ Needless to say, when Dave left the band, it hurt. People talk about ‘what would happen if The Beatles made a record today,’ or ‘how would Zeppelin sound now?’ It’s fun to speculate. It’s very rock and roll and the mark of a great band. Trouble is, few bands make it a reality – and those who do usually live to regret it. Times change. People change. Music, in case you haven’t noticed, has definitely changed. How could Van Halen be any different? They talk about a different kind of truth – but experience has proven that when it comes to aging rockers, the truth usually hurts… I wanted this album to rock to a middle-aged degree. I wanted it to have a few nuggets buried in its thirteen song running time that might provide me with a reasonable amount of satisfaction, a reasonable amount of cool flashbacks and bitchin’ ‘remember-when’ memories. As a Van Halen fan, I had earned it. We all had. We deserved it. But times change. And the truth hurts.
TATTOO
I had planned all along to skip past the first single on ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’ ‘Tattoo’ had seen a lot of air time at my house in the weeks preceding the release of Van Halen’s new album, and I wasn’t crazy about listening to it for the 65th or 100th time. However, the purist in me won out, and I don’t regret it for a minute. An explanation: I’m not going to sugar-coat it – my mini-van has a rocking stereo. I know that sounds like an utterly preposterous contradiction, but there it is. I’m sure Dave Roth would understand completely (plus, what better way to indoctrinate the little ones into the greatness of all things Van Halen, right?) It’s the best sound system I’ve got, and sonically, it rocks. ‘Tattoo’ never sounded so good – and suddenly made perfect sense as the opener for the album. While I prefer the original tune it was based off of, this interpretation appeals to the middle-aged version of me that I mentioned earlier. A great mid-tempo rocker that makes you feel it with a real father and son crunch on bass and guitar that rumbles you right in the chest cavity, I have a whole new appreciation for this song.
SHE’S THE WOMAN
Here it is folks. The first real moment where I got goosebumps from head to toe while listening to this record. I’m in my mini-van, remember? You expect me to say I was rocking out so hard I hit 100 mph? Actually – I was so enthralled by this cut that I forgot to press on the gas. I’m doing 40 in a 65. While listening, you almost get the sense that the whole album was cut in a day. Dave’s voice seems to need the first couple of tunes to warm up – kind of like my aching body – he’s not perfect, he’s not 100% vocally, but neither are we. We’re older. We’re road tested. Our bodies are dinged up, there’s a few scratches in the paint job, but man – we’ve driven a lot of miles and seen some amazing sites. That’s what I hear in Dave’s voice on ‘She’s The Woman.’ The fact that Ed, Al, and Wolfgang basically kill in this song in a way that defies description with only 26 letters of the alphabet to work with, only helps cement the song as worthy of the band’s glory years, which is about the highest compliment you can give to Van Halen or any band in this day and age.
YOU AND YOUR BLUES
Favorite cut on the album? Hard to say. Can you pick your favorite kid? Would you even want to? Put it this way: ‘You and Your Blues’ is the perfect example – the perfect answer – to the question we asked earlier: ‘what would Van Halen sound like today if they had never broken up on April 1st, 1985?’ This is it. THIS is how they would sound. A song so cool, so perfectly VAN HALEN, it not only would be worthy of their glory years, it betters many of those songs in every way – and any song you’ll find on the radio today. A bold statement to be sure – but that’s just how good the track is. It’s hard to conceive how they picked ‘Tattoo’ over this for the first single, but you just know when listening that this song is somehow going to find a life of its own somewhere down the road, kind of like The Stones music perpetually reappearing in Scorcese movies. ‘You and Your Blues’ is just too good to die.
CHINA TOWN
This is where things get really interesting. It’s been stated before by more than one reviewer – but the middle section of ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ is almost like its own album, and ‘China Town’ kicks things off in bold fashion. From the opening guitar, this track is pounding like a wild animal and seemingly right out of Dave’s solo effort: ‘Eat ‘Em And Smile.’ “Headless body in a topless bar?” Only David Lee Roth can pull of a lyric like that with serious conviction and make us believe it. Here’s a man that’s spent more than a few hours in China Town. He’s seen it. He’s lived it. You’re listening to it. This is also the first track where I realized: ‘holy hell – Ed is in it to win it.’ The man simply defies all rational thought when he’s got six strings around his neck. Owning perhaps one of the most gravity-defying solos that is matched note for note by his son and brother (and simply STOPS, daring you to want more, motherfucker!), this song demands to be listened at top volume at every occasion where it’s socially acceptable, and many where it’s not.
BLOOD AND FIRE
Remember how I said you couldn’t possibly pick your favorite kid? This is why. The fifth track on the album, one culled from a tune called ‘Ripley’ from the soundtrack to the long forgotten movie ‘The Wild Life,’ Dave intones us to ‘look at all the people here tonight’ in a way that surprisingly isn’t overcooked or in parody of himself. You can easily hear this song sung passionately by an arena full of people, and with good reason. As fans of this dysfunctional band, who can help but feel a genuine lump in your throat when you hear Dave save: ‘Told ya I was comin’ back. Say ya missed me. Say it like ya mean it.’ We missed you, Dave – and guess what? That’s not all. As maudlin as this song may seem to the casual listener – I can almost read a deeper meaning from Mr. Roth. As tempting as it is to claim this song for the fans, is it not reasonable to think that this song is more for Eddie and Wolfie and than anyone else? I’d like to think so.
BULLETHEAD
Die-hard fans of the band know ‘Bullethead’ very well. A deep cut from their demo days, this track would fit easily on their first two albums. A riff-driven rocker that doesn’t pretend to be anything but what it is – Dave uses a fast-driving car metaphor to illustrate what a man can reasonably sing about at 57 years young – and nicely ties in the name of the album in the process (“…got a different kind of truth!”) A scorching 2 minutes and 32 seconds, ‘Bullethead’ is tip of the hat to those halcyon days of yore when Van Halen would cut an entire album in six days. Strap in, baby – ‘Bullethead’ puts the pedal to the metal and doesn’t ease up around the curves.
AS IS
What the hell? Is that Larry Bud Melman counting in the song? And the drums? Is Alex Van Halen on steroids? And then the guitar. This is the song that made me completely realize and understand without a doubt that Ed’s past demons of substance abuse have been exorcised via his son, his instrument, and his band. Absolutely mind-blowing on every level, we are made to state out loud and for all to hear that Eddie Van Halen is once again the guitar god for all to bow down before, and Wolfgang Van Halen is a presence on bass guitar in a way that makes the absence of Michael Anthony a mere footnote in the history of this band. Add in Dave providing his best vocal performance in twenty years (and ending the song with a terrific round of ‘La La La’s!’ before the track fades out in a nebulous, mysterious fashion is positively money.) Best song on the album. There. I said it. I picked a kid. Don’t tell mom.My karma just ran over your dogma.Comment

Maybe he heard a few clips, and selfishly came up with that dickish comment....
But even his jaded ass has to admit, this is one fucking fantastic record.....Eat Us And Smile - The Originals

The only thing he could do if he had ANY balls (and he doesn't), would be to issue a public apology, to VH, Dave, the fans, as well as Mike and Joe who he's embarrassed the **** out of these past few weeks, the jealous, blathering idiot.
But he clearly doesn't have the integrity it would take to do the right thing, so no one hold their breath waiting for that to happen...Originally posted by conmee
