I can't possibly read all the pages of this thread, so I don't know if anyone else has said this, but how many others were just waiting for Dave to say something along the lines of "Look I'll pay you for it AGAIN, what the fuck?" at the end of "Beats Workin'"???Stay Frosty, muthas!Comment

I played it at work today and now Im burning a copy of all 7 discs for a guy I work with...and hes into country music..spreading the word..Comment

What I love about this album the most is that it's very consistent with the first six albums. I was listening to WBAB the other morning on their "Van Halen" day and they were playing oldies then "Blood and Fire" and it mixed right in, quite the blend.
Oh dear.

no shit.
making a "best of" disc is one thing, copying all seven is another.Writing In All Proper Case Takes Extra Time, Is Confusing To Read, And Is Completely Pointless.Comment

I think everything up to Chinatown, Is unreal. From Blood And Fire on, That shit is from another planet. Easily the greatest Rock record this century. I can't say enough about Dave's, And Edwards work on ADKOT.Comment

Another Aussie review. news.com.au
THE last time David Lee Roth made an album with Van Halen it was 1984.
Both the year and the album. They've adopted a revolving door approach to singers since then, but there's a certain chemistry when Diamond Dave and Eddie Van Halen get together in one room.
In 2012, Lee Roth is outnumbered three to one by Van Halens in Van Halen. Eddie's 20 year old son Wolfgang is now the bass player. Wolfie wasn't even born when Jump was a hit, and for A Different Kind of Truth they've gone back even further, ditching synth riffs in favour of primal, pounding '70s rock.
And it works. There's nothing as instantly radio-friendly as Jump, but you presume they were more concerned with keeping the band together than reinventing any wheel.
The problem the haters seem to have with comeback single Tattoo is that it sounds exactly like Van Halen. See also You and Your Blues - all those signature harmonies and Van Halen's riffs that swing from pop to metal with ease.
She's the Woman is an old early '70s demo unearthed and given a turbo makeover, As If sees Lee Roth keep up with the powerhouse guitarist he calls 'Shreddy Krueger.'
And for a man who's spent the past decade working in ambulances and training dogs, David Lee Roth sounds like he's been dying to get back in a recording studio.
Always more literate and erudite than your average rock star, you can imagine he's been writing down lines like 'When was the last time you did something for the first time?' and 'When you turn on your stereo does it return the flavour?' for years just waiting for the call from Van Halen. The James Brown-esque 'Awww... text me baby' at the end of The Trouble With Never is a nice touch too.
In Blood and Fire Diamond Dave says 'Told you I was coming back, say you missed me.' Okay, guilty...we did. It's been too long.
Rating: 3 stars

Hey Panamark - I read that review this morning at work - it's an entertaining little piece and the writer nails it.
Sadly, we can't say the same for our fellow Aussie, good old Andrew of Melodicrock fame. Melodicrock gives ADKOT a stellar rating, probably through gritted teeth, but he lets himself down with his cynical insinuation that Dave recorded his vocals separately from the band, while also attempting to diminish Dave’s contribution to the writing process by suggesting the Van Halens wrote the album together in 2010, then Dave, from a distance, just added lyrics and vocals.
First, Eddie told Rolling Stone in 2009 that he and Dave were WRITING TOGETHER:
“I've already gone to Dave's house four or five times over the last month. I've got so much music. It's just trying to figure out what Dave's into because we haven't written together in a long time. But it's great. It feels like we've always felt in the beginning.”
Second, the VHND, a far more reliable source, reported that Dave recorded vocals separately ONLY for the early demos, before entering the studio with the rest of the band for the official recording sessions. Yet Melodicrock refuses to believe this, still sticking to the conspiracy theory that the Van Halens can’t stand being in the same room as Dave, so they must have recorded the album apart. Funny, they toured together through 2007 and 2008 and are about to do the same again. They have also spent a lot of time together shooting footage for the album including Dave interviewing Eddie and Alex at some length. Yet apparently, they can’t face the thought of spending 5 or 6 weeks together to record an album?
It’s not a bad review – I agree with some of his thoughts - but it’s a shame he had to let himself down with this nonsense.Last edited by Halen High; 02-10-2012, 07:44 AM.Comment

It’s not an entirely bad review – but it’s a shame he had to let himself down with this nonsense.
I've been so engrossed with the album that I didnt even bother
to watch my bonus DVD until tonight.
I know its unplugged, but the real band vibe is there. The vibe of a band
in unison, not one going through the motions for the camera.
I know this is not conclusive evidence, but the camaraderie
is so obvious. This is not pretentious. The album has that
chemistry on it that can only happen when Dave and Ed do
collaborate. This will all come out in the wash eventually and Andrew
will have to be wrong again.
Im sure he has the medication to handle that by now.
If he wrote a bad review for ADKOT he would have been hammered by fans.
I havent read it, but I bet its a good review "but if you read between the lines" deal.
He is a Hagar boy all the way. Out and proud !Last edited by Panamark; 02-10-2012, 07:56 AM.BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow !

HH.
Just read Andrew's review.
Im totally surprised. It was more pro Van Halen than I would have thought.
His point about Dave recording seperately could be misconstrued from his end.
They may have already got their shit together and Dave indeed may have spent
time with engineers and producers on his own. (Refining) not uncommon in any band.
To make it some major point is odd ?
props to Andrew !
