Yep - it's a very good review, but what else could he say without looking ridiculous. If you read between the lines, he's saying it's a very good album but it's contrived because they still hate each other. What he's doing is trying to link Van Halen today with Van Hagar 2004 in some way. A lot of Sammy fans do this because they can't get over what happened to 'their band'. It's pathetic. Dave is the original frontman and what, 80-90% of VH fans want him in the band? But these "Sammy only' types will never accept it - just like their favourite frontman.

You know, I've only watched the unplugged version of Panama so far. I'm just not a fan of unplugged!!! I'll watch all of it later but I do agree, the chemistry and the bond is clearly there in what I saw.

Im totally surprised. It was more pro Van Halen than I would have thought.
His point about Dave recording seperately could be misconstrued from his end.
They may have already got their shit together and Dave indeed may have spent
time with engineers and producers on his own. (Refining) not uncommon in any band.
To make it some major point is odd ?

      props to Andrew !

(Taking everything from his perspective into account)
Yeah it's a ringing endorsement for the album - but he had to throw in the negative conspiracy theory stuff. The VHND was very clear - they ALL got together IN the studio for the final official recording sessions. Speaking of which......I wonder how many tracks they cut? I bet it was more than 13.

Panama is the worst on that DVD.

Dave screws it up by dragging out the spoken part too long..

The next two are perfecto ! Skip Panama.. lol

        You and your Blues
        Beautiful Girls...

        Awesome !

Dave looks like Joe Cocker now when he sits down, absolutely bursting to get outta that chair !
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow !

I'll watch it tomorrow. I was thinking the other two were more suited for unplugged anyway so I should put it on and watch all of it.

So that bodes well for a follow up ?? hmmmmm.. I love the new songs on ADKOT just as much as the reworked.
In that frame of mind, they could have easily recorded 2 albums.

Dont get me wrong, its great, its just that the famous "reach down between my legs" bit
he dragged out by singing "I cant see the road up ahead" over and over. Just a small nitpick, other than that
it does sound surprisingly good unplugged. The part in question is quite fun and good Dave adlib,
I know I will watch it again. But on first view, the second two are closer to original.

I keep switching favourite tracks from the old school Outta Space to the brand new HDSD.

I think they recorded several more brand new songs but went with more of the earlier stuff as a gift to the fans, and to probably get over the regret of never releasing something like Big Trouble.

I didn't mind it - actually I liked it - I just need to get over my negativity towards the unplugged thing so I can play the next two.

The unplugged thing, I think, was specifically designed to showcase their camaraderie as a band. It certainly wasn't to showcase Dave's vocal chops. Noticed him sucking on a lemon/lime wedge at one point (and I wouldn't be surprised if he was drinking tea with honey to soothe a sore throat instead of swigging Jack Daniels).

Also - musically I thought all the songs, even 'Panama,' translated very well unplugged. 'You And Your Blues' was particularly tight.
My karma just ran over your dogma.

I started reading Andrew's comprehensive review at MR but stopped reading at this point...
"but for me it was always the passion and direction of the Hagar era albums that appealed to me"

I'm not a big Metallica fan...but if memory serves "Death Magnetic" was not all that well-received.

I'm glad that dude likes ADKOT...but I'm not sure if I like having Metallica used as the litmus test....
