Official "A Different Kind of Truth" Album Review Thread
I m noticing 2 really huge omissions from this Van Halen album when compared to the 6-pack.
1 - No signature Alex drum riff. IE Jamies Cryin', Hot For Teacher, Dance The Night Away intro, Everybody Wants Some intro. Alex is laying down some of the best drumming I have ever heard, especially in As Is. But the album is lacking that one memorable drum riff that really stands out.
2 - No signature/memorable EVH guitar riff. IE Aint Talkin' 'Bout Love, Unchained, Mean Street, Little Dreamer, Dance The Night Away intro, Beautiful Girls intro, Panama intro (and slow break in middle). There just aren't any on this album. Fucking top notch guitar playing throughout.....but again, lacking that 1 beginning song riff that makes the hairs on your neck stand at attention.
Nitpicking I know. I fucking LOVE this album. Just pointing out a couple of things that really were signature stuff from the earlier albums and their lack of inclusion on this album.

1 - AS IS
2 - I hear what you're saying, and maybe it seems like there aren't many memorable EVH riffs because we've heard boots of half of them in their earlier incarnations from the club days and 'The Wild Life'. I wouldn't go so far as to say there are NO signature Ed moments on ADKOT, though. Big River and Beats Workin' are memorable as hell to my middle-aged ears!

i think we're listening to a different kind of album.
Please forgive me in advance. But the music for Aftercock is not bad. One of the VERY few that would have been killer with a Roth touch IMO. But as it is it still remains a turd and always will.
Thank you! I was just going to ask what the fuck is aftershock? The only Hagar songs I know are the ones that get air play.
