does anyone remember what happened at the mtv awards after the me wise magic album (best of album came up) just before they split up again?

What happenned was that Van HALEN got a standing ovation from the crowd, and Eddie the jealous shithead knew that he never got that with Van Hagar, and certainly never would come close with the Danniels-Cherone abortion. Danniels had manipulated Eddie into thinking the band was his to control (hence the feud between Ed and the Spamster), and Eddie knew damn well he would not be controlling David Lee Roth.
So instead he kamikazi-ed the reunion backstage that night going on and on about his fucking hip. But not before telling MTV's Kurt Loder - on live TV after the show- that indeed Van HALEN would be touring in 1997, after the band recorded some new material, probably a 5 song EP if not a full album.
In other words, Eddie told Kurt Loder and the MTV auduience one story and the press backstage another story. Or more simply, Eddie LIED.Eat Us And Smile

For a short time there in that great year of 1996 all was well. Van Halen had reunited and KISS had reunited. Then, backstage at the awards, what could have been one of the top years ever in Rock N Roll crumbled like a proverbial Van Halen hip.Comment

Roth acts like an idiot on stage.You know the old saying.......
"Act like you've been there before..........?"Guess Dave never heard it.He completely tries to upstage Beck,remember that,the dude that won the award in the first place,and why they were on stage.Dave put the boys in such a bad situation,ED had to grab his arm and pull him to the side to shut him up!!Remember this now?
Then backstage Dave yells at Ed,telling him to ........"Shut up about your hip!!THIS IS ABOUT ME!!"Remember this?
All this after Ed and Al,had to do about 1,000 takes on M.W.M.,because Roth couldn't get anything to come out of his mouth during recording.They had keep on encouraging Roth to not give up and to keep at it becasue he hadn't sang for so long,he lost his voice.Just listen to that garble on that song.His mix is turned so far up just to try capture anything from his mouth,they were lucky to get what they got from him.Does anybody else remember this?Got the tape right here.It was a GREAT photo op though.All this is published in "Entertainment Weekly" mAY '97.

Kid Vegas is the only one telling the truth here...Dave was acting like a douche on stage...and then when a reporter asked Eddie when they would be going on tour, Eddie said one thing about his hip. Dave then got all pissed off because he wasn't the night "was about him".Comment
