    Summer weather vs. blower rants

OK it seems like a simple question ---- but does it have a simple answer?

The band is touring the U.S. throughout the whole summer ---- these indoor venues are going to be steam cookers without the AC blowers running. Can Dave actually win and shut the AC off for the entire show?

The obvious answer seems to be "no" ---- you can't have 15,000 people risking heat stroke every night just because Dave's pipes might get hoarse. Then again, if his voice is truly wrecked by the blowers, that will shut a tour down really quick.

Also, if these summer dates were in outdoor sheds, people would not get to enjoy AC cooling. So is it a big deal to have no AC inside a hot arena?

    Thoughts?

I think they should be coming up with a compromise of some sort, but bottom line to me-if A/C hinders the man's performance, then leave the damned thing off.

I'm sure what they'll do is crank the A/C to the freaking max during the day and then kill it before VH hits the stage. Maybe even when the opening act takes the stage. It doesn't take long for a building to heat up with 15,000 people in it. Especially when they're screaming and jumping up and down.

Maybe they can start selling those titanium necklaces baseball players wear to keep them cool in the summer. VH titanium necklaces.....$60 bucks a pop.....I can see it now....who the fuck cares....we're a country of fat bastards who probably could use a good sweat anyway.....it's one hour and 50 minutes.....deal with it and rock the fuck out.....grab a beer or a soda/water and enjoy.

          Could be a litigation nightmare.

          Oh dear.

I've stood outside in the pouring rain to see Dave perform - having the arena heat up ain't gonna stop me from going to a show.

It seems to me to be a thyroid condition.

I question what exactly is wrong with Dave that this is such a huge issue??

The man has toured for 34 years in all kinds of conditions and now he can't perform with the AC on in the summer?

Seriously as summer temps keep rising the venues won't be able shut down the AC for their performances. In short order temperatures will become high enough to where it becomes a liability for the safety of the fans... not mention the impact on the facility and the gear on stage.

This isn't an issue of poorly managed climate control... it's one man and what the fuck is his physical issue?

                    Somebody get Dave a Doctor!!

Same here. Concerts back in the day used to be brutal - soaked in sweat by the time of the encore. There are few things I hate worse than freezing my ass off at a rock concert. In fact, lately I've taken to tying a jacket around my waste because I'm usually frigid by the time the opening act has left the stage. Turn 'em off, I says.

Arenas in the 70's didnt have AC cooling? I find that hard to believe.

I have to agree with this ---- it's almost like a fire code for a building ---- a performer can't violate that at will.

I highly doubt Van Halen wants to be on the national news for several hundred fans getting heat stroke at an indoor venue this summer ---- all because Dave is fussy about his pipes.

Kinda makes sense ---- how can Dave be wearing scarves and 3-piece outfit under those hot lights while Wolfie is soaked in sweat just a few feet away ??

The very first thought about it weeks ago now was the cold Sensitivity. My mother had Thyroid disease and she began to feel cold all the time.

Cold sensitivity may be a symptom of hypothyroidism, anemia, fibromyalgia or vasoconstriction.
