While all that sounds reasonable... it also paints a picture of an aged guy so fragile that some cold air is crippling him. If that's the case... Dave better drop the walker jokes and get one out on stage. Can't play the tough old guy card and get brought down by a gust of air. Man up...

Where the Hell have you been? The only kind of moving he didn't do when I saw them three weeks ago were the spread-eagle leaps off the drum riser(and you need to put the damn pipe away if you expect that), and believe me, he more than made up for the lack of those by doing lots of roundhouse kicks, etc. and he exhibited that he is still a fantastic martial artist. I sure as Hell don't know of many other 57 y/o guys who can manage to do much more than get the fuck up off the couch. Dave was on his A game 1000%!
As for the blowers, I do think there is a compromise that will be worked out. I can relate to his woes. I ain't a singer or a smoker, but cold A/C affects my upper respiratory system. He HAS to be able to perform or else you fuckers wouldn't shut up then either.Originally posted by Tiki-Tom You're one classy tattooed bombshell in my book.

You can't deny that Dave's aged a lot since we 07/08. All that shit we do when we're young catches up with us eventually.
I think it's more than just the vocals when it comes to the AC. I noticed the nights of the blower rants his movement itself was stiff and jerky. To be completely honest, there have been times I've wondered about Dave's overall health.
They have to find a happy medium. Eventually someone in the audience is going to have a fucking heart attack!!"Ya know what they say about angels... The man is pushing 60 - we have to be realistic, he's only human.
To my mind Dave should focus on the vocals rather than the stage show - less screaming/straining and more hitting the melody.
That being said, from the youtubes it's clear that he's bringing the party vibe. The Power Of The Riff Compels MeComment

Dave was ill in the beginning of the tour...it's obvious...you can hear it if you compare the tubes from the early shows and now!Roth Army Icon

Sure there's the age element... but we're not talking extremes. With the AC/blowers going it's in a range in the 70's around the stage area. It's not like they are cooling it down into the 30's, 40's, 50's or even 60's. Then when the lights and big screen are going it's still pretty darn warm on stage. You can't deny that Dave's aged a lot since we 07/08. With the cooling systems off from what I've heard from people at two recent shows... the temps quickly rose well into the 90's and they were sweating sitting or standing still. That can't be healthy for the fans and especially for the band under the lights and in proximity of that huge TV screen.
Sure AC can irritate a singer's voice to a certain extent... but it appears that something more is going on."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

All the other entertainers who sing for a living seem to have no problem with it. Dave seems picky. I used to think all his yelling at the crew was an act but maybe it's not. Stop acting like a diva Dave. Are you in Van Halen or are you in Journey?I question what exactly is wrong with Dave that this is such a huge issue??
The man has toured for 34 years in all kinds of conditions and now he can't perform with the AC on in the summer?
Seriously as summer temps keep rising the venues won't be able shut down the AC for their performances. In short order temperatures will become high enough to where it becomes a liability for the safety of the fans... not mention the impact on the facility and the gear on stage.
This isn't an issue of poorly managed climate control... it's one man and what the fuck is his physical issue?
Somebody get Dave a Doctor!!No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

Okay, I've discussed this privately with one member...looks like it's okay to discuss publicly now, as obviously I'm not the only one thinking there's something more going on...
I've been watching Dave's body movements very closely during various video's. My eyes are usually drawn to his hands. You may notice that fairly often his index finger is rubbing his thumb, as if he is rolling a pill between his thumb and finger. I can't remember which vid, but one of the ones they released he notices it and tries to hide his left hand.
To me, this looks like a symptom of Parkinson's, known as pill-rolling. The AC issue fits this theory. My ex had Parkinson's, and if he caught a sudden chill, he would get symptomatic. He also has to clear his throat a lot...
Now, this is just arm-chair theorizing...don't come down on me for it...just putting my theory out there. Hell, if I'm right, it would almost be worth it for them to go public. The critics reviews would be a lot different...
