Alex is probably more articulate because he was younger when he quit drinking, and therefore has more brain cells left. The real brain damage of long term drug and alcohol abuse doesn't really show up in verbal communication until later in life (i.e. any interview with Ozzy in the 80's compared to recent years. It's amazing how coherent he seemed to be back then, even though he was probably shitfaced while the cameras were rolling)

Part of me likes that he has the balls and the ego to go for it without the assistance of a teleprompter as so many other artists do. It does make for good spontaneity and he's always screwed up lyrics (whether intentionally with Romeo Delight on the '82-83 tour) or unintentionally (listen to the LA 6/19/81 show where he screws up Unchained--definitely not intentional). So this isn't anything new, unlike his new vocal line to DTNA that needs to be retired.

But when you have a show like Atlantic City 3/24/12 where he was screwing up multiple songs, or when he tried to do Hang 'em High by reading the lyrics off the drum kit, it does get tiring and it gives the haters unnecessary ammunition. The haters are going to hate anyway--I get that--but still no need to make their jobs easier.

I worry more about it becoming an issue with the other guys. Wolf was watching Dave like a hawk in St. Paul to see if he needed to jump in and get him back on track (he did sing Dave's part a few times).
