Go watch a soundcheck for Aerosmith or The Who or anyone of similar age and you'll see LOTS of mistakes based on foggy memories.

In his days off, Wolfie spends his time hanging with his chick and watching a lot of hockey. Nothing wrong with that, but his Pops and uncle and Dave at that age seem to have the "fire in the belly" and were always thinking and playing music. I don't see that same burning desire in Wolf. He needs to put down the Twitter phone and start noodling on his bass late into the night and producing stuff that makes people's jaws drop.
I guess my question is how the hell do you know what Wolf is doing on off days? You obviously have no desire to give the kid the benefit of the doubt. And you harp on the fact that you haven't heard anything he has composed and that he is as good as a 14 year old on YouTube. How many tunes do you know for a fact MA wrote? Were you in the ADKOT development rehearsals to know for a fact Wolf didn't bring riffs and ideas to the table?

Your opinion is duly noted. You don't want Wolf in the band and will slag on him rather than appreciate him... we get it.

He hardly ever tweets, and last night he was jamming with Ed at Val's house. She tweeted they were playing and singing Women in Love in the next room.

Guess he's doing a bit more than hanging with his girl and watching hockey...

Good point... TJMpunk and I don't know squat about who really produced what when it came to the making of ADKOT. It's all speculation and opinion marinated in bullshit. I'll give you that...

I believe TJMpunk has the Missouri "Show Me" angle covered and wants proof Wolfgang isn't just following in Uncle Mike's coat-tail ridding approach™.

I'm just following a somewhat logical assumption looking at what the Three Old Farts™ were doing creatively leading up to producing ADKOT. I was more than pleasantly shocked that ADKOT turned out as heavy, deep and rock your ass off as it did!! Didn't see that coming at all having followed Dave, Ed & Al's careers since day one. I honestly thought Tattoo might have been the heaviest hitter when it released... yet turned out to be the lightest song on the record. Thankfully...

Back on topic... this record and tour are exactly the reason Mike's services are no longer needed in VH... It ain't broke and doesn't need fixin...

And we likely never will as long as he is in Van Halen. He walked into a legendary band without paying his dues. He will always have to live with that fact. Unless there is a day when he goes out on his own and starts a new band. But even still, the name will give him advantages that others don't have.

This thread should be re-named the MOOT POINT thread. Or the really tedious, time-wasting, annoying, fruitless, pointless, redundant thread.

And I'm sure Wolfy is struggling so deeply with "walking into a legenday band and not paying his dues"........struggling all the way to the bank. The kid can play and sing and he has a good head on his shoulders.....why can't that be enough?

Sorry if I'm getting a little bitchy, but this shit just pisses me off - and I knew it was coming. Killer new =VH= album out, the band is sober, touring, and seemingly happier than ever - and now, with a bit of mileage between the album release and the first leg of the tour winding down, we get the: 'but what have you done for me lately?' bullshit starting, with lame threads and nothing but nitpicking and complaining about every little flaw with the live shows. The shit just pisses me off.

On the other hand, I can easily believe a rock legend creating all the bass lines for his son because he desperately wants the world to think his kid is the "future of Van Halen".
Agree. Plus, the fact that is now on record of Wolfgang having had the distinct pleasure of being recorded with EIGHT microphones no less by none other than Ross Hogarth. You think that ever happened for Mike? Doubt it very seriously.

Read the liner notes to ADKOT and it says all music written by "Roth/Van Halen" ---- that sounds like code for ---- "My Daddy wrote all my bass lines for me".
Yep, it sure does say that imo. Not a shred of proof he wrote a single note on ADKOT yet.

That REALLY pissed off the sisters. There's also that nagging rumor that Mike blew off the funeral for Mrs. Eugenia Van Halen and if it's true --- then that certainly doesn't make him more likable in Van Halen country.
I didn't mention the Other Half, just his gigging during the Sam & Dave 2002 tour. However, I recall while they were touring as the Other Half, EVH was still definitely in the throes of alcoholism and could not be bothered with any decision making regarding VH. Mike was still wondering what the hell was going on so he probably thought "Why not?' Hell, you think back to the side projects EVH had back then and why does it make it okay for him to do something but not Mike during VH's downtime? Why should that have even bothered EVH? Answer: It shouldn't have. Not one iota. With nothing going on in VH, what was the big f'n deal I ask? Evidently, he did think it was.

Keep the better bass better and jerkoff to your 1978 poster if you feel nostalgic.
What an asinine comment! You think they aren't strolling down Nostalgia Lane right now? Pull yer head out of yer ass. A new album to draw from and yet they only play four new songs per show. I ask you why? Is it because they can't reproduce them all live? Or, simply don't want to? Funny, EVH went on record a few short yrs. ago saying that he would "never be a nostalgia band" and yet here he is eating those same words nightly. Makes you think they aren't as proud of this new record as they should be imo.

The reason you're crying for the thread to be closed is because you've accepted what Deaddy has doled out to you. My guess is that you settle for mediocrity in your day to day life as well.

You got your own system of logic, bub ---- and it sure seems like a delusion wrapped tight around Wolfie's ball bag!

You make the repeated mistake of forgetting that when Dave and Eddie get together on a creative level ---- fireworks happen 99% of the time. They are fully capable of producing mediocre crap when they work apart (DLR Band, VH 3, etc) but they are a sure thing when cooking in the same kitchen. They proved that in 1996 with 2 great songs after being apart for 12 years --- and they proved it again in 2012 with ADKOT after a prolonged separation. And yet you automatically assume ADKOT was suddenly great because Wolfie grew up and became a force of nature. I'm still calling bullshit on that.

What's even more offensive and delusional is that some of you want to crown Wolfie as the new "King of Van Halen" after only one album of mostly reworked demos and 1.5 tours ---- and yet Mike contributed to 5 solid years of growing popularity in the LA clubs and 11 studio VH albums (6 of which are legendary rock masterpieces) and you weirdos want to dismiss him as a no-talent hack who had all his bass lines written for him by Eddie. Who's using twisted and irrational logic now?

Come back down to Earth ---- revoke your memberships to the Wolfgang Nutsack Nuzzlers Society ---- and let time decide if this kid really got "the gift". Until then --- he's a soundcheck foreman living in a very large shadow of a guitar icon.
