It would be nice to think that "someday" VH's US Festival performance would come out on a remastered DVD, especially since Triumph and now Priest have released theirs....

But EVH is such a perfectionist, I don't see him allowing that to ever happen....

I think if the decision were Dave's, I could easily see him saying "Fuck it, lets's do it"......

Like everyone here, I've been waiting for an official release of this since it premiered on Showtime all those years ago. I had a VHS copy back then and basically wore it out. So far from the US Festival I have:

Motley Crue (great VHS copy that I converted to DVD)

Quiet Riot (Just released this year DVD / CD set)

Judas Priest (Screaming For Vengeance 30th Anniversary with US Festival DVD included will be released next week)

Van Halen (2 DVD "supposedly" remastered set that I bought at a CD / Record / DVD shop in Greensboro, NC during the reunion tour)
I like to pay close attention to the things I'll forget later...

The US Fest performance was perhaps mildly uneven when contrasted with previous tours, probably in no small part due to a bit too many liquid refreshments beforehand...I'd tend to say the band was slightly drunk rather than blitzed. A few bum notes here and there. Still, I wouldn't say the band was in any way too far gone to get the job done and done well. Great energy and enthusiasm. Kind of charming that the band would charge $1 million + and still have a bit of a "fuck it, let's party" attitude. I seriously doubt many in the crowd were let down by the show. It wasn't anything near approaching the subpar level of play Eddie displayed at points during the 2007/2008 gigs.
It was also a time when ticket prices weren't astronomical and audiences to a degree just plain expected rock stars to be fucked up.
Now, when I saw Aerosmith in 1985, THAT was a case of a band (Tyler and Perry in particular) being too fucked up to play well and the condition they were in certainly prevented the group from putting on a good show. Not so with VH at the US Fest.

I've seen Aerosmith four times. The first two times were festival shows in the late seventies. Cal Jam II and The California world music fest. My memories of those shows are a little hazy. But as fucked up as I was at those shows Steven Tyler was at another level of fucked up. At one show I swear he blew chunks on the side of the stage when he got frustrated the crowd couldn't sing parts of "Come Together" on cue. Must have been Cal Jam. I don't even remember them playing "after" Van Halen at the world fest. They sucked so bad at Cal Jam I might have left before they hit the stage.
The other two times were indoor shows. In 86 in Bakersfield the day the challenger blew up. They were ok but that's about it. Last time was in LA right after the riots. Another mediocre show. I know longer own any Aerosmith cds. I'll crank "Train Kept A Rollin'" if it comes on the radio in the car otherwise I don't pay much attention to them.
The times I saw Van Halen were another story. No complaints performance wise. If they were fucked up and played sloppy at the Us it didn't seem to bother the crowd. Everybody stumbling to their cars in the parking lot afterwards sure were happy.

And the crowd noise is turned up to 11.

I seen them in 87. They were good but not blowaway. I have never seen them again. I wouldn't mind since they play alot of older stuff lately. I like the dvd You Gotta Move they put out in 04. Toys In The Attic is worth the whole thing. Not sure how you don't have the Rocks & Toys In The Attic albums. Classics. Grunge before that shit was even invented ! I don't think the US Fest. will see the light of day. Too sloppy and Mikes on it ! Ed has no clue what to give his fans ! He just doesn't seem to care about the history of the band at all. It's wierd some people are just like that. I think if we get something old from them Dave & Wolf will be in charge of it.

As far as Aerosmith goes I only like the first two albums. Steven went from singing to screaming on "Toys". They had a few listenable tunes after that. But their whole style changed. "Lightning Strikes" off "Rock In A Hard Place" is probably my fave of anything they did after "Get Your Wings".

Rock in a Hard Place is a damn fine album, even without Joe. It might be one of my favourite Aerosmith albums in fact.

Yup, its a pretty good one, even without Joe and Brad, they made a good one. I used to think of it as a Steven Tyler solo album, but has some great tunes on it. Especially the Title track and Lightning Strikes, Jailbait is pretty raunchy too. I like the last 2 songs as well, kinda different for them at the time, good use of saxaphones on that album.

Maybe they should start doing cocaine again, as they did their best stuff back then when they were wasted.

I think they did some interesting stuff when they broke up around then.

I never heard the Whitford-St.Holmes album, but I especially liked The Joe Perry Project's 2nd album, I've Got the Rock'n'Rolls Again. I think that - as well as Rock and a Hard Place, beat anything they did since Rocks and including all their post-80s reformation stuff.
