    Andy Johns: Working with EVH

    Hat tip to VHND:

Eat Us And Smile - The Originals

"I have a very belligerent enthusiasm or an enthusiastic belligerence. I’m an intellectual slut." - David Lee Roth

"We are part of the, not just the culture, but the geography. Van Halen music goes along with like fries with the burger." - David Lee Roth

Andy Johns also worked with Jimmy Dickhead.

Cool interview, personally I prefer solos like Simple rhyme where he just takes your head off .

Why does the guy who can wing a solo and make it brilliant have to double track?
I think double tracking killed early Beatles lead vocals .
Hey, fuck it though, double tracking worked great with Randy Rhoads.

VH was much better served raw and go for the throat.

You must be quite the fan.
I thought Jimmy produced all of Zep.

That and he was an engineer on the Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street.

Between Andy and his brother Glyn, they have worked with damn near everybody.

Too bad they didn't bring him on board during the CVH years... would have been interesting to hear what that element would have brought out of Ed when he was on fire.

I think the classic Van Halen years were perfect in every way. I really don't think it needed improving in anyway.

He was, is pretty much a drum mic-ing guru, no? I remember liking the sound he got for Al on F.A.R.K. Too bad the wrong singer still kept showin' up. I think he got Matt Bissonette the identical sound on Satch's Extremist CD. Damn, come to think of it, these guys are all in bed with each other.
