Well way down yonder in Louisville....

    Ah yes...I'm feeling a sleeper #1...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

Of the 6 pack era... The chorus and back-up vocals of Loss of Control makes my skin crawl like fingernails on a chalk-board. Also something about Tora, Tora, Tora that makes me hit fast forward... other than that nothing else belongs on a shit list.
A lot of it...for me...was 'why did I listen to VH?!?'

And it was alway Roth's singing...

So some of eds instrumental work ends on the cutting room floor for me...

I've always liked the music on this one. Anybody else? Would've been interested to see what DLR could've done here because Sam's lyrics are pure shite and ruin an otherwise decent tune.

            1. Where Have All The Good Times Gone?
One of the few times Van Halen did a cover and their 'Van Halenization' fell a bit short. Underwhelming.

            2. I'll Wait
The song is just a lumbering downer, with a throwaway guitar solo, melancholy synths and a vocal approach from Roth that is as meek as the simpering nature of the lyrics.

            3. Dancing In The Streets
Worked much better live than on record.

Hey, considering most bands can't even put out ONE album that is excellent from start-to-finish, Van Halen overall are spectacular...a few duds ain't bad...plus, I actually like Big Bad Bill.
I'd swap Big Bad Bill for Where Have All The Good Times Gone, but other than that I'm with you. Has the band ever expressed any sort of fondness for I'll Wait? If not, I'm at a loss as to why this still sucks up precious set list space...

This guy is fucked in the head. Here's the real top five suckiest tunes:

              10. When It's Love
              9: Josephina
              8: A Apolitical Blues
              7: Ballot Or The Bullet
              6: Amsterdam
              5: Source Of Infection
              4: Year To The Day
              3: Feels So Good
              2: Up For Breakfast
              1: How Many Say I
My karma just ran over your dogma.

For the sake of truth in reporting, I feel compelled to disclose that not all of these songs have been heard in their entirety.

I think the vocals distracted me from ever giving much consideration to the music. That's a sad thing indeed. If memory serves, the song also starts off with practically the identical keyboard intro as Why Can't This Be Love. I s'pose, based on what you're saying, I'll give it another listen and try to focus on riffage only.

That other song, Learning To See, was almost a little AIC inspired in parts. Again, somebody fucked it up for them.

                        This thread is gay...

The only Van Halen songs that pretty much suck are Jump, 1984 and Tattoo...

Up for Boners and How May I Get High are not Van Halen songs...

I might be the forum newb here, but have played rock and roll for a while, my first band formed in 1985. God help me I'm currently playing in a 3 piece with Ash.

People dis on tattoo, jump, 1984 and other VH tracks that for any reason I find great tracks. Jump may have been slightly cheesy but tongue in cheek cheesy is Daves thing, he certainly embraced it solo (Dave TV anyone?)

                              Tattoo is a great track.

Roth has been on record as not caring for it.

I can say that on the last two tours, when that song was played it was easy to discern a tangible lessening of audience enthusiasm...it kinda stilted the momentum of the gig...

The band could drop this from the setlist forever and I wouldn't miss it.
