I'd think he'd be smart enough to figure out if anything sells, put it out! Including the old live shows!
I told you why, shitbird!
EVH isn't going to touch anything old that has Bassplayer on it. Not if he has to acknowledge Bassplayer's contribution, and especially not if he has to let Bassplayer in on the profits.
Writing In All Proper Case Takes Extra Time, Is Confusing To Read, And Is Completely Pointless.

At this point, this has to be the reason. It certainly couldn't be Eddie being uncomfortable with old material itself, considering ADKOT - or at least half of it - was practically the VH equivalent of the Stones "Tattoo You". But since those old songs were never published, and Sobolewski never actually wrote any of it, he doesn't get a penny, as long as it's Wolfie's bass on the record and not his.

You know that's the curse of The Mighty Van Halen.
We remember them flying all over the stage and even Al destroying the skins but we have to come to the reality of those days gone by.
Even look at the audience they're not the rabid crazed fans as we've seen in the old boots either. The band is in their late ages and so are the majority of the fans. So no we won't have that energy of back in the day.
The past 2 tours don't really faze me that much because with new tech we've really seen about all the shows on YT.
Now what I and just about every VH fan want is the unseen footage, the full 81 concert and others that have never seen any light!
The money they would make would be ridiculous!
Oh, hell yes...to all of it.
If an official live dvd release of the last two tours was made available, I'd probably buy it. But the last two tours aren't what I really want to be made available. I want the footage of the band in their heyday with Roth. It's the only period of the band worth remembering.
Yeah, the last two tours have been a nice bonus. It was good to see (almost all of) the band onstage together again playing those songs, but nothing that's happened since 2007 (even the ADKOT album) is part of what makes the band essential for me. All of that stuff took place between 1974 and 1984. There was a chance in 1996 that maybe the band could have reconstituted itself and approached their salad days, but they blew it. These days, the band is doing the best they can with what age and self-abuse hasn't yet eroded. And the results are decent, but nothing - NOTHING - the band is ever gonna do now (and that includes the return of Biff Malibu) will restore those glory days. What's left of those times is the music and the only 'new' stuff the band has that is of any worth are whatever video/audio relics are gathering dust in film canisters or 5150 studios.
There simply must be some convoluted legal knots that need to be untied before this stuff sees the light of day, because it's the only thing that makes sense to me as to why the stuff hasn't come out by now. Ed and Dave may be a couple of flakey characters, but they're not stupid. They know that stuff is worth a mint...certainly worth far more in commercial potential than another new Van Halen album is now.
I wonder if they even know what exactly is in the vaults. Worse, it seems like nobody in the VH camp (read: Ed) has an active interest in finding out. They should have a "VH Vault" contest like they did with the "Lost Weekend with Van Halen" contest in '84, with the winner this time getting to scour the vaults/shelves to see what is there exactly once and for all. Could you imagine that? Who wouldn't be shitting themselves if they won that? Hell, they could set up a giant winner take all/cage match of just Roth Army people for the opportunity to go through the vaults and any number of people would sign up for that!
Getting back to reality, I circle all this shit back to Ed. For whatever reason. it just doesn't seem to be something he has any interest in doing. If that's the case, fine, but put Wolfgang on it then for fuck's sake!

But surely Ed can realize that if all he has to is slap an old CVH Frankenstrat logo on some gear and that will sell then logic dictates actual archival audio and video will be worth that much more (hint: it wasn't only guitar players who bought 10 million + copies of 1984 and Van Halen I).
I agree, but if Ed realizes that he's sitting on a gold mine, why the hell won't he do anything about it? Hell, he wouldn't even have to go through all that stuff himself. I'm sure he knows any number of people who would gladly sift through that stuff. For whatever reason, the dude just doesn't have the motivation to put that stuff out.
A boxset is going to end up on a torrent site before it's even released.
They would sell some but still quite small beer compared to the massive sums generated by US tours.
That plus Ed's historic problem with what he sees as sloppy live performances by Roth plus the thought of sending money to Mike Anthony and undermining his son's position is my guess why this hasn't happened.

Fuck if I know! I've been trying to figure that out for 15+ years myself. So you might as well torrent as much unreleased =VH= as you can before its too late.

That's great. I will die with Live Without a Net being Van Halen's only live commercial release. That's real fair. Let's have the 5150 walk be the lasting memory of a once untouchable monster. Fuck me.

Oh, you're in luck, my friend! There's the terribly cringe-worthy 'Live: Right here, Right now' for you to retire on! Enjoy shitty editing and a shirtless fat fucking clown!! IT'S 5150 TIME!!!

I thought Hotsauce Soblewsky signed away all his rights to the band back in 2004, so why this wouldn't be a problem, but maybe he would get a cut somehow if they released something with Mike in the band. I don't believe that is true, but could be possible.
I think Ed is too much of a perfectionist to issue old sloppy performances - at least at this time when he can make money playing shows and selling his gear, which he gets 100% of the cut.
