I did about 15 years ago. It's just above mediocre, like Patrón. According to all of the tequila guides, that's pretty much the general consensus. I don't know about places around the Americas, but here I rarely see anything but Patrón or the bastard fuel injection cleaner alternative called Jose Cuervo in bars...

Tequila is like Hagar, an over priced one trick pony novelty act that drunk people do sometimes because they think that will make them appear like party people.
Just my opinion though and I loathe to criticize any alcohol...Comment

Not a huge shock.
From 1999 to 2007, what was his single biggest payday? Probably the Sam and Dave tour.
I mean, clearly even if he was working on a straight fee rather than an equal percentage of the net profits of the last two Van Halen tours, whatever Roth negotiated was gonna be a much bigger profit than whatever he was making on the road as a solo act prior to 2007...and was certainly going to be much bigger than whatever Dave would have made as a solo act on the road for the last 7 years.
Last time I saw Roth solo was in August, 2006 at the Hard Rock in Universal Studios, Orlando. Has a seating capacity of maybe (MAYBE) 3,000. Tickets were like 40 bucks a pop. Place wasn't sold out, either. So even if he had sold it out, he stood to make $120k. Subtract band and crew salaries and all the other incidentals, Roth was still making good money but he wasn't gonna be banking millions (or even close to that) as a solo artist.
Whatever deal he made with the devil regarding working with Van Halen, it was probably something he not only wanted to do, but he probably needed to if he was gonna keep up the lifestyle he wanted to live. And you know what? There's nothing wrong with that.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

Casino & festival promoters, as well as other venues hit the jackpot when Dave rolled into town.
The same thing still happens nowdays, with acts like Cheap Trick and Ted Nugent. Tickets usually cost $50 to $70, and the shows draw anywhere from 1000 to 3000 people. The venue earns and keeps all liquor sales.
I'm not talking out of my ass here. Van Halen also has a guarantee amount. They get paid the same no matter how many people show up.
You have NO idea how much of that money they DONT get.
Never mind multiplying the ticket price by the sales on any given night. That has jack shit to do with the band's gross, and EVERYTHING to do with the promoters. Without whom, no touring act, no matter how big, could operate.
I suggestion you read up on the touring business, before assuming such elemental conclusions.Last edited by big fatty; 01-23-2014, 12:02 AM.Comment

Yeah. It's on par with Patron. I pretty much only drink tequila when I'm down in Mexico but really I'm a mezcal guy. You can see God on that stuff. Every time I go down to Mexico I travel the universe without a spaceship. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

John 5 is a studio slut. He works with anyone, anytime, anyplace. KD Lang to Rob Halford, and everybody in between. If Boy George called him up, Johnny would probably play on his project for a blow job.
Fuck John 5. You think he's gonna share his best material with Dave. I don't think so. Listen to the last tune from Diamond Dave, "Thug Pop ". Total freakin' garbage.
Where was John 5 after the DLR Band album. He ran off with the nearest faggot that called. Marylin Manson. So much for loyalty. The best stuff on that album was from Mike Hartman anyway. King Of The Hill kicks ass.
Whatever this accoustic " Beyond The Rainbow Grill ", or whatever it's called, is most likely like that " Thermo Plastic Chair " tune from last year.
I'll like it. You'll like it. A few hundred other life long die hard Roth fans will dig it. But it will be another go nowhere Magna Carta label style indie release that doe's jack shit for Dave's carreer, other than make smartass critics and " Bi- Halen " fans mock him for not being able to sustain a high profile status without EVH.
He should just put it out on the internet on his website for free. Maybe do some video's. It would be cool.
DLR had Blue Oyster Cult open up for him in 2006. After his radio show ended, he knew he was going back to VH during that 2006 tour. You can see the glow in his performances on that tour. Keep in mind, his casino, club show gross at that time was $ 50 000. So do the math on that. $ 25, 000 an hour minus expenses. Not to shabby. You think he'd do those Ribfest shows because he needed the money. I dont think so. It would be stupid NOT to do a few ahows each year to have something coming in to add to the kitty. Property tax's, etc.
Dave is no dummy. Not to mention his pop died and he most likely never had too much stress related to money.
He did the NYC paramedic stint as an adventure. I believe he volunteered. Better than sitting on your ass getting wasted like EVH at the time. Dave is too sharp to have ever been lean on money.
DAVE DID INVENT THE STRIPES. It was HIS idea that Eddie do something with his guitars to stand out. DLR got the idea from seeing one of those punk bands that had stripped their guitar. He thought it looked cool, and gave the idea to Eddie to improve upon so his guitars, and the band, would stand out. This was in 1977.
This is exactly the crap I hate the most about fan bullshit and the "he's so fucking great" he fart's rainbows bullshit that many of you position him into... what a load of crap that no human can standup to the hoopla..."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

The claim was he spent a million on that video in two days and then sent it out to a handful of radio stations with little explanation.
By the time I had caught up with the Sammy and Dave tour 20 shows in it wasn't available at the merch.
First no one spends a million like that if you are down to your last few million particularly not a smart middle aged Jewish guy.
Secondly he filmed it at his own house. I smell a clever tax accountant...Comment

You don't understand.
This " Celebrity Wealth " website is gossip bullshit. They have no legitimate source. It is BULLSHIT. It is like TMZ or something.
I remember an rock magazine article in 1991 when Dave was promoting " A Little Aint Enough ". The article stated he had an estimayed wealth of 40 million, owning shoppung malls and radio stations, etc.
DLR, and anyone for that matter, is not going to submit their financial information to some jerk off gossip website. All those figures are innacurratte.
I suspect they all have a lot more. Not from royalties though.
The BBQ video is EASILY understandibly costing 1 million. That is NOT a big sum pertaining to video production, editing, models, and the cost of film.
It was a FULL HOUR production. Most one song video's cost upwards of $60 000.
I suspect you guys are just fucking with me. Ha, Ha, Surely you must know how it is.

Even though 'Diamond Dave' lost his locks, he's still a great performer. By SARAH POULTON VINDICATOR STAFF WRITER NILES -- "Diamond" David Lee Roth rocked the Valley's dreams Monday night as an estimated 4,500 people were encouraged to "Dance the Night Away" at Eastwood Field. What started out as a fun-filled family event quickly turned into a party for people who are lost in the '80s. Thom Sharp, director of stadium/Expo Center events, said that because of the weather, a carnival setting was not possible. The children were still able to enjoy a fun night with their parents, listening to "old people's" music and watching fireworks, but the games and activities that were planned did not happen. Even though the evening was missing some key elements, Sharp predicted that it would be a great show that no one would want to miss. "In a small market, such as the Youngstown area, you can't miss this show," Sharp said. "I can't even imagine if I would have missed this. Every seat in this place is like a gold circle seat." Roth headlined the evening, opening with Van Halen classic "Hot for Teacher" and closing with "Jump." He played a complete Van Halen set -- minus "The Hagar" -- and added his classic cover "California Girls." Sammy Hagar played with Van Halen after Roth left the group. Blue Oyster Cult also made an appearance as Roth's opening act, singing their classics such as "Godzilla," "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Burnin' for You." Three of BOC's original five band members performed. Other acts Other bands in attendance were the Back Alley Band, who played lost classics of the '70s and '80s, and the Frank Fordeley Family Band, who were switching costumes left and right. The House Band, a popular local act, kicked off the show with a few of the crowds favorites, Sharp said. Buck Dharma, front man for BOC, said that they have played with "Diamond Dave" in the past, and that he is a lot of fun. He said that Roth tells a lot of jokes, and keeps the atmosphere enjoyable. "My criteria is to entertain myself," Dharma said. "If I don't have a good time, then I don't come back." Jimmy Ramone, merchandise manager for Roth, said that even though Roth lost the locks, he's still a great guy and an amazing performer. "He's matured," Ramone said. "He had a serious job in front of a microphone, so he had to look the part. But that doesn't change who he is." Ramone also said that Roth tends to do a Van Halen set because that is what the fans want to hear. Although everyone hoped for a Van Halen reunion, that won't happen in the near future because of the bad blood between Roth and the Van Halen brothers. Fans John Kegley, 44, of North Lima, and his wife, Sonja, 40, said were excited about seeing Roth, even though the event started with a little bit of rain. Kegley said that he stayed home from work one day, just to get front row seats to see Roth. This is his second time and his wife's first time seeing him. "We came for Dave," Kegley, known as Buster, said. "If nobody else was here, I wouldn't care." Adam Hudek, 17, from Lake Milton, is a member of the Frank Fordeley Family Band. Hudek said that his father got him started in the band by playing guitar. Hudek was excited to be sharing a stage with Roth and BOC. "It feels pretty good to play with BOC," Hudek said. "I wish Van Halen was here, but David Lee Roth is pretty cool." The evening went out with a bang during a fireworks display. Sponsors for the event included Rafidi Law Firm, Warren Harley-Davidson and T & amp;D Landscape, Sharp said. spoulton@vindy.com

What a load of fucking horse shit... bull shit or whatever conglomeration of crap I've ever read... Go suck Diamond Dave's dick on some gay horn dog site... if you must. But he didn't invent or come close to being the creative element you position him to be.

The stripes on EVH 's guitar?
There is a new documentary coming out soon about the mid to late 70's L.A Punk Rock scene which will include a few tidbets about VH.
You will then see what I'm referring to regarding the stripes. Just trust me.
So far as the other stuff. I just stated facts regarding DLR's touring income, as a counterpoint to the suggestion that insinuated he was hurting for cash before 2007.
Of course I don't have his income tax returns, so you're right in that one respect, but my initial point of the post was that DLR earned $50,000 per show as a solo act. ( Not including the 2002 and 1999 tour ).
So far as the sucking cock invitation and what-not, no thanks. As Dave would say, " Call Me Retro, I'm still hetro ", maybe someone else can tickle your funny bone. Thanks for asking though, it is a great honour to be considered by the likes of the mighty Zahoo. I've read enough old threads on this internet to recognize some of the regulars of the past ten years or longer, and certainly recognize you, and am not sure how to respond at this point, so you'll just have to wait a while until the movie and book comes out to see that I am right and you are wrong.
