Was listening to an old podcast from 2012 on TuneIn radio of some radio station and they were discussing the 2012 tour. Had people calling in asking them were they excited about the tour and new album.
This one dude called in and in his conversation he says he's always felt Eddie was overrated?! WTH
Took the hosts by surprise because it was that awkward silence but they just let let him have his say and didn't debate him?!
That was a hell of a statement ho make on national radio!

I think it's an issue of semantics or just poor word choice. I don't think Eddie is over rated in the least, however, he is praised frequently. Sure, he's one of the top most innovative living rock guitarists and it's a title well earned, but it does get jammed down our throats a bit. So much that it, somewhat, lessens the amount of props that could be given to another great of our time. Guess what'm trying to say is there may be an over stating, but certainly not an over rating IMO.Comment

Joe is probably a more technically proficient guitarist. But even he would probably admit that he didn't record a ground breaking album which changed the perception of what 'rock guitar' is, or could be.
I'm not a huge fan of evh the person, but that's beside the point. evh the guitarist is the most significantly innovative player since Jimi, not just on musical terms, also equipment. and he's still alive.
That's a win.Comment

There's just one point about which EVH could have done better, that is quantity - I wouldn't mind VH albums to be a 12-pack plus ADKoT and its follow-up...
As for Ed's sound, virtuosity, lead AND riffing, his laid-down, smiling attitude on stage, he deserves every ounce of his fame, maybe more.posted by Ellyllions Men say, "I'll never understand women." I think that because Ed isn't taking a dirt-nap and has a very identifiable style plays into it. If EVH had died in 1982 he would be praised as the best thing ever. He'd have a Hendrix-like mystique about him. When's the last time you heard someone call Jimi overrated?Originally posted by wiseguyThat shit will welcome you in the morning and pour the milk in your count chocula for ya.Comment

Outside of classic rock sites on the internet I rarely hear anyone mention Hendrix unless it's his birthday. I hear about Zep or The Who maybe doing another album but that's about it for classic rock news. I never thought Hendrix was overrated but I can only listen to Hendrix a few songs at a time. I'm sure there were plenty of people who thought he was overrated in the late sixties/early seventies. Most everyone here idolize Eddie Van Halen but people outside of here might not feel the same. This is only my opinion and I don't expect too many people to agree but Van Halen doesn't have a signature song that ranks with the signature songs of other classic rock bands like Stairway To Heaven or Smoke On The Water or Ironman. If you asked the members here what they think their signature song is you'd get twenty different answers. Some people here might think Jump or Panama is it but others might say DOA or Runnin' With The Devil.Beware of DogComment

If you haven't noticed the current management has a more hands off let the inmates run the asylum approach to running the site. Some people might not like it but as long as you're not posting pecker picks or using certain forbidden words the threads live and die on their own. That's the way it should be. That is unless you want somebody to close or dump your threads based on who you are rather than what's in them.Beware of DogComment
