And no Eddie isn't overrated. Any musician with any brains can and would realize his talent. Even if you don't like the songs. He changed and probably saved rock guitar with his playing. Case closed !

No way Eddie is overrated. I think Satriani holds that title with Malmsteen in hot pursuit.

I thought they had quite a lot of comedy value and so were entertaining for the first 10 minutes then it becomes unbearable.

I'm sure it wasn't deliberate but it was a great parody of shredders...

That's not wrong (as the Swiss will say), but then quite a lot of threads are recycling stuff, quite a lot of them could have been included in such or such existing topic. This one is just another one of the kind.

But I have to agree with you, though I dotted myself, couldn't help it.

PS1: most multiduplicate threads are posted here in Main, BTW.

PS2: PS1 is also an overrecycled remark.

                I'll say it now...

I'm a huge Hendrix fan, but his playing ability isn't exactly rocket science...

Jimi could write and perform a song as well as look as cool as can be while doing it...

Guitar technicians are a dime a dozen...

The whole package is a rarity...

I saw Vinnie Vincent open for someone (can't remember who it was) in the 80's and I thought he was terrific that particular night...

He jumped on stage jamming with a fury of clean notes, and fast and well executed riffs...

That shit goes in cycles. Years ago rock and roll (real rock and roll) was never mainstream in the media or at awards shows. Then as the next generation took over bands like Zep, The Who, The Stones, The Doors, The Dead were all over the news, they even added a hard rock award at the Grammys. Classic rock question started showing up on game shows even. Now the next generation is in control and most of them are consumed with trying to eek out a living and save every penny they can for retirement because they don't want to end up with nothing when social security finally dries up completely. Their kids control what is and isn't news entertainment wise. That's how shitheads like Beiber get rich and act like idiots.

That's a good point. If Van Halen had been around a few years earlier they could have broken up and never put out another album after the first four or even the first two and enjoyed being considered the number one American hard rock band of all time. The Van Halen brand might even rank with the top brands like Zep, The Stones and The Who. As much as I dislike them The Beatles would still be on top. If you really think about it Van Halen had a lot to do with the popularity of hair bands. They didn't wear enough make up to elevate the status of glam bands but they had plenty of hair. I think Dave was a big Jim Dandy fan. So was Jesse James Dupree. Jesse got a littler closer to looking like him in the hair dept but Dave got his moves down and took it to another level.
