I'd rather VH not say anything and just spring the album on us when it's done. Saying up front it's gonna take 18 months is not very rock and roll. This is non news to me. I'll get excited when I hear the first single (hopefully not Tattoo 2).
My karma just ran over your dogma.

Well, to be fair.... it was fairly easy to crank out Van Halen II or WACF in a week, since the material was already written, and they had been playing it live since the club days.... actually some of the songs on WACF were written in 1973, for fucks sake.

Fair Warning was the first album they had to write from scratch, which is why it was so different from the previous three. The original plan was to release a live album after that, so they could have "time off" to write the next album properly. The live album was cancelled at the last minute, WB demanded a record anyway, and so we got an album called "Diver Down" that was half cover songs, and even the other half contained some warmed over leftovers from 1976, like Last Night.... er.... Hang Em High.

Somehow they were able to take a little more time to write the next record. Unfortunately, Eddie used part of that time convincing himself that he wanted to be in a synth-pop group.

Anyway... I think I was trying to make some fucking profound point here, but I forgot what the fuck it was.... but I'll just add that most of this band is pushing 60 (Al's already over that line, I think) and there's not a single artist or band of that vintage that is turning out albums with less than three years between them. Call it memory loss, arthritis in the joints, or whatever. God knows the Sisters skeletal issues are well documented, and Dave's health was speculated on right here on this very board recently.

Maybe if Wolfie could imitate his dad and his uncle well enough to play all the instruments on the album, it could get done faster?

WB demanded a record because Dave had the bright idea to record a one-off little diddy cover called (Oh) Pretty Woman to keep VH in the public consciousness for a bit during their vacations...

I will look forward to anything of this nature - new album, a couple of new tunes, whatever - that happens. I think that now the guys are hitting their 60s that the studio is where they can still do good work, as ADKOT showed.

Tours??? Don't really care any more - more fucking records, guys. Please. You are one of the best bands at making records that I can think of, so please make some more.

He should. And do all the singing too. I even found a stage rig he can use...

That was 6 months ago. You only have a year left now. :D See, better already.

Diverticulitis is very painful, but it's not fatal in and of itself. Caveat there is a worst case scenario in which an infection develops and then you could die of sepsis. Comparable to a burst appendix in that case. It's rare that it progresses that far though, because the pain would be serious enough that any sane person would have seen a doctor about it long before an infection was present. When this happened to my father, he thought it was something much worse, like cancer, so he was actually relieved by the diagnosis.

I don't know the specifics of Ed's case, so I can't say whether surgery was absolutely necessary, or whether he elected to have it since he has the money, and thought it was the fastest way to recovery. In most cases though, it can be managed through dietary means, like eating lots of natural fiber. My dad managed his by grinding up flax seeds and mixing it in with his morning orange juice. Which sounds disgusting, admittedly, but it worked for him.
