ok here goes:

the breakup of 1985, was never intended to be. Dave and Ed agreed to a "break", with the idea that once everybody got " straightened out" they would reconvene. They hired sam, so when you hear dave say he got fired, its true. It is also true that he left, again for a break. By hiring Sam, on the tails of the bands biggest selling album was pure luck for him. The band has continued to prosper to a degree for one simple reason: The legend had already been established while Dave was in the band. The future had already been created. We all bought 5150, not a bad album IMO, but it was not VH. 5150 sold well because of curiosity and because of the 6 preceding albums. The same goes for EEAS and Skyscraper. Everyones sales have decreased, vh's have dropped with each release, so have Daves.

For anyone to think that Vh's stay is due to sam, they are either 13 years old or were a fan of him before he joined the band. Any right thinking VH fan knows that the original lineup paved the way for the 4 sam era albums. Granted some of its ok, but nothing they have done has ever captured the RAW FUCKIN POWER of the first 6. They have become content, which is why sam is back, and that does not produce good music!.

The bottom line is this: THE ORIGINAL LINE UP IS WHAT MADE THE NAME VAN HALEN... Van Hagar and Dave have prospered because of what was created during 78-84! anyone who thinks differently is just lying to themselves!!
