I'm also a big VH/Roth fan but... isn't it better to have Sammy messing with the legacy than Dave? Dave hasn't been in VH in 20 FUCKIN' YEARS!!!! Last century!!! He's almost 50 hisself, can't do the splits off the drum riser anymore, can't "sing" half as well as he used to.... you're better off with the memories, kids. I mean, either you accept that VH is collectively nuts, because a reunion with Dave was obviously much more lucrative, or you accept that Dave is such a total asshole that the money wasn't worth it!!! Back in '85, DLR "fired" VH, then tried to get an injunction that would prevent the brothers from using THEIR OWN NAME!!!! Because he was going to tour with new musicians as Van Halen. So hate Ed or Alex or Mike or their pets, but it was Dave who fucked himself out of VH in the first place!!! At the height of his coke fueled ego/paranoia. So y'all can blame your hero!! Is he still being overly rude to fans?? The ones who pay all his bills??? Will he ever learn?

You're an ignorant idiot. Dave never sued the band to get their name. He never even considered such a thing. In fact, it was the press that told Van Halen they should change their name because Dave isn't around anymore. Dave left to do a movie, but mainly because he and the brothers just couldn't stand each other anymore and they didn't want to do long tours and wanted longer breaks. Dave wasn't up for taking such long breaks and spending a year in the studio noodling on new material. Plus, the personal relationships were just at an all-time low. Then he left, the movie fell apart and he formed a new band.

Where you get your facts, I have no idea. But quit making shit up. Yes, Dave shouldn't have left. But it wasn't all his fault that the band broke up. Few people that have ever worked with Eddie deny that he's an asshole and nuts.

DAVE -id Lee Roth, as in Rotharmy, as in FORMER lead singer of VH. As for the story of Dave "firing" VH, I heard a taped interview that a friend of mine had made with Eddie in Toronto. My friend hosted a weekly radio program called "2 Minutes to Midnight", had a tape recorder and was going to meet the guys from Helix, but ran into EVH at a mall, and asked for 20 mins of Ed's time. He said Ed was awesome in person, very friendly, and when andy asked Ed "what happened?" Ed was very frank. He sounded angry when describing Dave, and referred to him as "that motherfucker" only. Roth fired one of the greatest bands in history. Or tried to. If that isn't one hell of a career nosedive/suicide, I don't know what is.

One day, he strayed off too far, swam across Lake Ontario and ended up in China where he ran into one of Alex and Eddie's long-lost uncles. This uncle, Ronald, claimed that he spoke to Eddie's mom at some point in 1985, and she claimed she overheard Eddie once saying that Roth never sued them for the name...

Roth is still suing VH for this and that to this very day..... as I said, I was a huge VH fan back in the day, and find this whole site amusing, but at the same time kind of sad. Petitions, hate mail etc??? Fuck just don't buy the albums anymore, don't go to the show, show them by not shelling out hard earned dollars to see the sham. They're all milionaires many times over anyway. The fact that they are selling tickets at all is because of EVH-- go to Vegas and see Mr Roth before his show closes--again!! As you can see, I feel Roth was the biggest letdown of the whole thing. EVH is an asshole and nuts?? After 15 years, Billy Sheehan STILL hates Roth, as does Vai, Becker, etc. Becker said Roth "could be a decent guy if he didn't have those small social problems". Support the ol' guy all you want, but Roth WAS about partying and having a good time, not all mercenary and hostile which seems to be the theme of this site.

VAN HAGAR

When I was going to MI they had all of the back issues of Modern Drummer Magazine since it's inception. You could check them out as a student. I checked out an issue from 85' (don't remember what month) and there was a picture of AVHalen for a drum ad. I can't remember whether it was for Paiste, Ludwig, or Simmons but there is one thing I do remember. Under his name it said VAN HAGAR. I almost fell over in my chair. They obviously did consider changing the name to VAN HAGAR although I highly DOUBT it had anything to do with DLR trying to sue them. I dont' recall any such news on MTV at the time and they were covering the VH situation closely. I've always held the belief that they SHOULD HAVE changed the name to VAN HAGAR because VHALEN without DLR is simply not VHALEN. They changed completely after DLR left, and not for the better. If anyone can get a hold of back issues for MDrummer you'll see the ad. You'd have to go through all of them in the 85' year but you will see it if you can get a hold of them.
