Yeah, it was definitely the inclusion of Humans Being that boosted BOV1s sales.......(yawn)

the first "Best Of"...sold well because:

1)the disc's selling point was obvious and was heavily promoted as "2 NEW recordings With DAVID LEE ROTH"!!! THAT'S A FACT!!!

2)All the die Hard Dave fans wanted the 2 new trax.

3)at the time of release, Oct of '96, "ME WISE MAGIC" was in heavy rotation and already #1 on all Major Rock Markets and Billboard charts!!!

4)it was the FIRST time that the Dave era tunes were being "Digitally Remastered" and that greatly enhanced the overall sound.

        5) the majority of VH fans, (the media and Rock critics alike), had great anticipation and were optimistic, (and tricked!), in that VH would Tour w/ Roth and eventually reconvene with their greatest original frontman!!! milk it for what it's worth???

also...MTV had "Welcome Back DAVE" ads running like 5 times an hour!!! c'mon Tom, the reaction of the audience at the '96 MTV award show had the FANS, and the music buz rambling and drooling that Dave was back...why such denial?

hell, the first "Best Of"...probably could have sold MORE if Dave had actually STAYED w/ VH!

        3)

I give you that those are all reasons why it sold well, but they were not the only reasons. All i am saying is that BOBW could never compete with BOV 1 regardless of new tracks because it was the second greatest hits.

Shit, I already had the first 6 albums and didn't need a fucking "Hits" package at all.

For me and every mother fucker i knew, we got it for the new Dave tunes, period.
I almost didn't buy it because of the Spam material on it.

My nephew gave me the Video Hits tape for Christmas and it has only been played a couple of times because of the lack of Rothness on it.

There are many reasons people do stuff, but only one true reason BOV I sold what it did, and that was Roth working with VH again.
And to ice that cake? BOBW is proving that point as we speak and Spam had 3 new tunes on this one.

Point Spelled Out For The Sheep: Baaaaaaa Baaaaaaaaa Moooooooo Baaaaaaaaa Baaaaaaaa.........Fuck it, i'm slitting your throat ya wooley bastard.

I think you could be considered in the group of "Hard Core" roth fans, which i said were clearly buying the album for the new roth songs, again, i just said that alot of non hard core fans only wanted the popular songs, and all they needed was 1 greatest hits

                          Jesus Christ.

                          Best Of Both Worlds blows.

                          End of story.

BOV1 wouldn't have suffered commercially if Humans Being had been left off of it.

Any Van Hagar fan had already bought the soundtrack to Twister, which was available several months before BOV1 came out.

Hard-core? I think not. Casual fan is one thing (someone buying a greatest hits). Fan is another...something that has the six-pack. Hard-core...someone that buys bootlegs, etc. The normal fan bought the BEST OF...as well as the hard-core. And they bought it because a LOT of people wanted new original Van Halen.

Sammy Hagar has since announced there will be no new album because they would not make any money on it.

                                Conclusion:

The sheep base is eroding fast.

Van Halen 3 was more popular than Van Halen 3 1/2 with Hagar.

Van Halen is, was and always will be about David Lee Roth.
