I'd have to say LEGIONS of stupid fans making crap out of nothing, twisting shit around to look bad, and tons of other bull shit that they do.

VH kicks ass and progresses...some fans just get stuck in one place in time and never move on...then blame others.

I can't vote on this one. I think that Classic Van Halen is was and always be Classic Van Halen. Tarnished?

Nothing that has happened since can "tarnish" that which is still gold.

Does that mean Van Hagar compares. No.

But, look at Van Halen circa 1978, and look at Van Halen 1984 and tell me that Dave was loosing his influence.

The use of keyboards, and synthesizers was a part of the times. An expansion into an untapped area for musicians to play in.

Don't even try to tell me that David did not experiment with pop and other new sounds as well.

Why not throw up some managers names there as well? Why not put Valerie into the vote?

If Sammy and the brothers would not have bashed Dave from the beginning up until today, most V/H fans would have considered Van Hagar as just a decaffinated version of the original; but instead they forced us to choose sides and to hate, blame & loath them. Tip: Alex shut the fuck up! Lets be honest, it was Daves shamless self promotion, flamboyance, cockiness, controling attitude and charisma that made the brothers as rich as they are. Eddie is talented, But he is very unmotivated and if it were not for the momentum they built up with Dave, and managers taking over after he departed V/H would have died in '85.

You're poll is invalid... it missed the obvious answer. Dave fucked up Van Halen's legacy and I'm saying this not as a posititve nod to Hagar or any interation of the band since 1985. Quite to the contrary... Van Halen's legacy would not have gone down the path of the Van Hagar if Dave hadn't been so fucking full of himself that he thought he could do better than the gig he had. The fact is Dave walked away and even took more than half the crew. Other than the 1st couple of post Van Halen years... it's been an uphill climb to get back to the top or get back w/ Van Halen... both attempts have failed.

I can dislike Van Hagar and Van Cherone all day long... but the root cause of their existence was Dave walking away from the greatest band on Earth. That fact can not be denied... unless of course you are talking out your ass...

Yes Dave believed he was bigger than the band, but he also left because he felt they were slacking off........

Dave felt he had to walk away.

I'd rather not hear Dave's voice on the material that would wind up as '5150' and 'OU812'.

SERIOUSLY. If you have such an axe to grind against Mr. Roth, why not spend ALL OF YOUR TIME over at the links? Why bother posting on a site dedicated to the PRIME reason (according to you) a band you've been into the majority of your life has sucked for 20 or so years? Seems kind of pointless on your part. I'm sure a person as sanctimonious as yourself MUST have a great deal of pressing issues to take up your time? Rather than magnanimously trying to upstage the ARMY "youngsters", maybe you could regale the links with your wisecracks?
Right, their quite boring over there. Just like Van Hagar!
