Roth back in '00, '02

Anyone have any specific info on why the '00 and '02 attempts to get back together with dave fell through?

Apparently, Ed tried to kiss Dave during one awkward moment. Dave backed off, Eddie grabbed him and started screaming, "You know you want it, Dave!" Dave ran out of the studio in a hurry and they didn't talk again.

Yeah, Dave demanded that Ed should stop making shitty music instead of kick ass rock like in the old days. But Ed insisted that he had 10 albums of lame powerballads material!

Do you think there might have been something to the whole "Van Halen featuring David Lee Roth" business? I remember that "Tabula Rasa" album was supposed to read like that, right? Most bullshit has a kernal of truth to it somewhere down the road, so maybe that's it - maybe David wanted to keep his solo identity intact in case Van Halen Inc. decided to fuck him out of the deal, a la 1996, again...

Dave and VH worked together from early 2000 and on.

Roth confirmed this at his website in 2001, said they had written three "astonishing tunes".

Eddie (in his infamous Golf Magazine interview, also from 2001) confiremd the union, saying that "we got together, things were going great until the lawyers got involved."

So, it seems as though Dave and VH was actually working and it wasn't because of Dave's vocal performance in the studio.

Seems as though they couldn't come to terms with the money. I think things really fell apart when Dave found out he was making less money on the old albums than Al, Ed and Mike. Hence, his lawsuit against them in 2003.

Someone posted a little 'press thingy' fans have been getting at the Van Hagar shows this year, and it states that "Diamond Dave, who took himself out of the game by suing the band..."

Dave wanted more security to not have 1996 happen again. When he didn't get it, things didn't get off the ground.

exactly. and i don't think it was so much the money as it was the control. i mean, dave's rich! it's not like he needs money. what it boils down to, i think anyway, is that edward wanted dave to be his bitch kinda like in '96 and dave wasn't going to fall for the same shit a second time. and i say good for dave for not agreeing to be edward's bitch!
