It's a shame because even though I have grown to detest Eddie, I always thought he had the gift. But it seems like he has squandered it away. I would have preferred him to do solo work after VH split rather then just try to reinvent something that was magic. I think he would have used his gift better writing a classical symphony rather than the seemingly uninspired souless stuff VHagar slops out.
Any guesses on BOBW for this week?

There are the Edward fans that'll buy anything with his playing on it, the few Hagar fans that want his shit, the fans of the NAME Van Halen itself...you add that up across the U.S. and you = gold. Of course, sales of "gold" do not = "good", as the reviews, tour revenue and general interest level in BOBW and the so-called reunion is proving resoundingly.
Van Halen, like Metallica, have morphed themselves into becoming the McDonalds of rock and roll. The NAME is actually more important now than the product. The NAME sells the records and tickets, NOT the actual product.
The band has been serving up an inferior product since 1986, but the Van Halen brand name has enabled them, to some degree, to legitimate their appalling decisions. Not anymore. BOBW and this tour will go down as easily their biggest failure, and the recent scathing reviews are exactly what they deserve.
I still can't believe how badly put together BOBW is. Whose IDIOTIC idea was it to mix up the Dave and Sammy material, include Sammy singing live versions of Dave era songs, and make the packaging as bland and unimaginative as possible?
And Eddie had to be off his nut to record those three new pieces of crap. After all of Eddie's criticism of Sammy's lyrical abilities, how could he allow those lyrics onto this album, a so-called Van Halen album?
The only reason this album has sold what it has is due to the brand name.

The band's new double-disc greatest-hits album, The Best of Both Worlds, featuring standards from both the David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar eras along with three new tunes and three live tracks, hit record stores July 20 and debuted in the number-three spot on Billboard's album chart. It is already closing in on platinum status.Comment
