Actually, this would be cool !!

A new Van Hagar album with no Dave connection at all..

Bring it on... Let it bomb.. This sucker would sell even less
than BOBW (and hence less than VHIII)

I can actually see a positive here....

    FUCK ALEX !
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow !

A new Van Halen album, hunh? Well, if Big Al's happy signing onto Sanctuary, anyway...WB won't touch it with a ten foot pole (remember how they wanted BOBW to go out on Rhino?)...so that much is obvious, and with their numbers post '96, VH will be lucky to get a deal with Sanctuary...major label time for these guys is OVER unless Dave's back in the band and they know it...if they DON'T, then record company exec's will be more than happy to remind them why WB doesn't want them unless its DLR...

Sammy isn't a fan of VH, Alex is only fooling himself on that one...if Sam was a fan, we'd be hearing shit off of Women & Children First, Van Halen II, Diver Down, and a much broader selection of VHI, Fair Warning and 1984 songs...even if it wasn't a lot, there'd at least be some variety, in addition to the "5150 Shit Years" material...there'd be no place for his solo material in a live setting...playing his solo material live destroys any notion that Hagar gives two shits about any VH material other than his own...

The only reason Alex thinks people arguing over VH eras is stupid is because the truth's evident...the truth was proven on an MTV stage in 1996...how fucking short of an attention span does he think Van Halen fans have??? Does Van Halen constantly fool themselves into believing that anybody has forgotten 1996? The question of who Van Halen was and always will be was resoundingly answered right then and there until the end of time. The very fact that Alex, Mike, Ed and Sam have to get up on a soapbox during interviews and continually denounce the Roth era over the last, oh, 20 years or so....well, shit, if there was no need to do it, they wouldn't....but the fact of the matter is, people are still talking about it for a reason, people are still arguing about it for a reason, and if the DLR era was as irrelevant to Van Halen in general as Al would like us to believe, than none of us would be here, would we? Van Halen's summer tour was be a barnstorming success, BOBW would still be in the top 10, It's About Time would be burning up your radio stations right now, et al...

But you don't see that happening, do you?

Reading Alex's bullshit is just plain sickening. Because, really, that's all it is...plain bullshit. I, for one, have no reason to believe that Sammy's not going back to his solo band at the end of this tour (whenever they actually end it...my guess is it's just being extended in a blind hope that the promoters will recover their losses up to this point, I don't know though)...for the life of me, I can't figure out how promoters are making any money off of this what with VH's guaranteed salary per show regardless of attendance, and with as low as attendance has been (5,000-15,000 a night? Even back in the early 90s they were doing 30,000 a night easily).

I can certainly see Sam wanting to stick it out with them, though...considering his solo albums have sold like poop and he couldn't pay a major label to touch them...they're avoided like the black plague by the people that matter....

Sooner or later though, it's all going to come to a head again...Ed's gonna get pissed that Sam's a solo artist first and foremost and Van Halen will ALWAYS come second to him...'96 all over again....wheee, I love the ride....

Are the sisters really so lazy that they'd prefer a singer who actually puts their band second to his own solo career's needs? Are they really so listless that they don't mind him playing his own solo material live? Is it really possible NOT to care at all that the singer in their band doesn't even LIKE their first six albums and, when forced to do any material from them, does so GRUDGINGLY?

And that would be the difference with David. David would put Van Halen first. David IS an obvious fan of those records, a blind man knows that.

      Yet, Van Halen doesn't.

There are no greater fools than those who can see the truth in front of their eyes, yet will never acknowledge it.

Is it any secret that Al hates Dave? That's why he's so quick to dismiss that era of the band as history.

They're using Sammy like Metallica used Newsted to "connect with the common folk" so the reclusive =VH= brothers don't have to.
"Honey, my shirt got itself torn up. My shirt tore itself on that stripper's hand, and I need it to be sewed up for the show."
"No problem, Dave, no problem. Say hello to Fluffy."
          "Fuck you, Fluffy."
"No, no, you're going to upset Fluffy."
"I ain't saying hello to no stuffed bear."
"You know, now that I think about it, it's going to take a little longer to sew up that shirt than I was thinking."
          "Hi Fluffy, how you been?"
"Now that I'm thinking of it even more, it's going to take half the time, Double D, Diamond Dave! Would you hold Fluffy?"
          "N--- yeah."

First off, sincere appreciation to bueno bob for a thought filled and keenly insight filled post.

To actually understand, let alone get on track with the VH of today, one must first step away from what most of us view as "reality".

Here is a band that as recently as the "III" tour, was willing to embrace their collective musicallity during the Dave Roth years...this, obviously was due to the input of Gary Cherone (say what you will about the fellow, yet he did INDEED make an outstanding effort to get the VH "machine" to tolerate, if not completely celebrate, it's own magnificent and overlooked history with Dave Roth) yet now apparently, for conveiniant reasons (a "Best of" collection and tour) has gone by the wayside.

Is it entirely needed for me to bring up the simple fact that there exist NO pictures of Dave Roth on this release?

The spoiled, pampered and logic-free thinking of this we call a modern VH think-trust is showing it's own dissillusionment, IMHO.

Frankly, if this "current" thrust breaks down, we might actually be reading or hearing an interview in the next couple of years that, upon rejoining the band, "Gary was ALWAYS the true "singer" for Van Halen!

                  As stated above, IMHO.

I've noticed how (and maybe I'm missing something) Sam and Ed don't seem to be in a lot of concert shots or interviews together. It's always Sammy and Alex. I got a feeling that all isn't peaches - n- cream at Camp Van Halen.

Dave, your phone is ringing. :D

I'll have to get a Roth is Van Halen shirt and stand out the front of the gig after a few beers at the local...

A Van Hagar tour Down Under would be met with a collective yawn. BOBW failed miserably here, and after all these weeks I still haven't heard one of the new songs on the radio in Adelaide.

As for the recent comments by Alex, mixing up Van Halen with Van Hagar on BOBW actually emphasised the difference between the two eras!

Nothing on the radio in Melbourne either.. must say something about Aussies musical preferences when even the radio programmers even won't add it to a playlist

VH III revisited...I like it, a piece of humble pie for all of them coming right up.

I predict failure with this project, and i'm always right with my predictions.
