Also Sammy nor Alex is allowed to do any separate interviews and time is limited (as well as space here). Sammy is an old friend of mine so his answers were a bit more from the heart and compassionate. Alex has always been the big brother, the guy who actually runs VAN HALEN

So Alex is the guy who actually runs Van Halen and he is not allowed to do any separate interviews???

Yeah, well, obviously an interviewer who asserts that Van Hagar was more "successful" than the classic lineup (whereas that's not the case, regardless of one's definition for success) and that Van Hagar are nearly selling out every venure theyre playing this year obviously isn't in full command of the facts. We're not talking musical opinion here, just cold, hard statistical data.

Hagar and AVH come off as quoteless as ever. Reading a Roth interview, what the man says has a way of flowing. Even at his most circumlocutious, Roth backs up whatever point he makes with substance. Just trying to read this interview is a thankless excercise.

Hagar comes off as ignorant, and Alex comes off as conceited (though the reasons behind this bloated ego are a mystery to me). Both come across as divorced from reality. Only the Van Hagar acolytes left in the music press who have shown past propensity to kiss the bands' ass get access to the group. Goes part and parcel with the insular mentality of Howdy Doody Mountain.

First step to fixing a problem is acknowledging you have one. Mike does what he's told (if the case for his independent spirit was showing up at the 2002 Sam and Dave tour and playing a few songs with Sammy, that to me reinforces the notion that he's pussywhipped by 5150 more than anything else), Ed's off in foggy-doo land, Sammy just doesn't care and Alex thinks it's all going great.

Think Stuart Smalley (a Van Hagar fan if ever there was one) said it best when he said "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt".
