Honestly, I think Ed's best tone was around 1984. That's my favorite album, and it definitely has his best guitar tone. I thought that his guitar tone fell to shit after that...especially on 5150. And it was thin-sounding after that. See, I don't just dislike the Hagar albums vocally...I also hate the production. The guitar on F.U.C.K. sounds like shitty over-produced cock rock, making that truly the most shitty album Eddie Van Halen ever recorded. As for BALANCE, I will concede that the guitar tone is good. It is the same guitar tone he used for HUMANS BEING (admittedly a good song) and the reunion songs (one of them was a freaking BALANCE outtake). His sound on ME WISE MAGIC is awfully edgy, but that makes it sound more dangerous.

Shaun, now, I've spoken with him once or twice on a serious note, and he's actually a pretty upstanding young lad...albeit his Hagar indulgances need some proper DLR-style tuning, but we're working on that.

My opinion is that he's cool, so he's not pen material...if he switches allegiances and the red goes to his head, I'm sure we'll be the first to hear about it
