An interesting idea I have seen implemented on another board... similar to thanks and groans.
If a user receives 10 or more groans in a 24 hour period they are then prohibited from posting for an entire week.
A lot of the trollish behavior came to a dead stop after that implementation. Especially from veteran members who loved to stir up shit.Comment

I dunno, bro...to me that sounds awfully hard to implement, let alone police at this particular site. I mean think about it, suppose you and me (or anyone else for that matter) happen to be minding our own business, and some halfwit (the type that feels the need to post his ignore list, for example) gets a bug up his ass and decides to spam any ten of our posts with groans. Because of the board's automatic protocol, we are instantly prevented from posting. So we then would have to pester a mod or supermod in order to get things fixed. And with all of the aliases around here, it would be a headache for the admins to deal with.
To me, this sounds more or less like giving the controls of a mass transit system to the riders, like allowing the brakes on a high speed commuter train to be accessed via a cord hanging in the passenger compartment. There is such a thing as enforcing safety, but it's quite another thing when the train comes off of the tracks at 90 MPH because some dufus thought he spotted a woodchuck.

Hey Texan. Sarge approved the design about 3 weeks ago, Travis started working on it and had to stop to finish up another project. He just started working on the site again earlier in the week. According to his email, Travis should be ready to start compatibility testing any day now. From there Sarge will take a look, give Travis the green light, and the site will go live. FYI - portions of the new design are running behind this one right now.

Hey VA, I know he is going to deploy. He told me he will have internet access where he will be stationed and will be in touch. And I can only move an independent contractor (Travis) along so fast. I can have him launch the site right now, but it will be buggy without the compatibility testing.
