I lost a little bit of respect for Guerrero with the holding and hitting bit...he fully had ahold of Berto's head with his right hand (out of the view of the ref) while hitting him with the left(s) that caused the first knockdown, that was weak sauce. Also the ref was warning Berto for holding when Guerrero was doing most of it.

That 2nd time Berto took a knee after the thumb in the eye (legal punch I guess, but OWW) you could totally see Berto's eye start swelling up immediately...every post-fight pic I've seen of him has the caption "Cut me, Mick!"

And points to Berto for essentially fighting blind the last half of the fight - BOTH of his eyes were swollen shut and he was still NAILING Guerrero with uppercuts that would've destroyed a lesser opponent. Guerrero definitely has a chin on him.


I'd like to see a rematch with a different ref. Bradley would be a good fight for either of them.

Frankly, i was shocked that Guererro took all those vicious shots from Berto. I saw him hop a little once but he never staggered. I didn't expect him to move up and handle it that well and i am surprised he carried his power with him.

Guerrero fought like a schoolgirl compared to the average Hopkins or Holyfield fight and most folks think they are all time greats.

Totally agree he cheated, and while not to excuse it, yeah he DID have to do it - if he'd fought fair instead of the "punch and hug" bit ( that the stupid ref only warned him ONCE about), and let Berto have enough room to wind up, punches like those uppercuts that were giving him fucking whiplash they were snapping his head back so violently probably WOULD have staggered him if not knocked him into the front row. The only way he could win was to smother Berto and fight dirty. I'd thought better of him up until that point. Can't stand dirty fighters.


Not buying Guerrero's "he never hurt me" bit either...he DID wobble a couple of times, but held on for dear life...

As for the knockdowns, IMO the first one doesn't count due to the holding, and the second, hell if someone thumbed my eye that badly (NEVER seen a fighter's eye swell shut during the course of ONE ROUND that I can recall), I'd have taken a knee too.

Berto was giving as good as he got in many places.

To me it goes like this: you fight an inside fight, you're going to get mauled, thumbed and butted (within reason - and we all know when the line is crossed). It's just how it works.

How on earth guys like Hopkins and Holyfield make a career out of dirty fighting and are hailed as legends but others get shit for it is beyond me.........
