Leppard are pretty much like Ki$$ these days, a travelling circus churning out the same old same old because noone is buying their new albums.

It`s sad but it`s also true.
The Kiss analogy is a good one

It seems that Def Leppard are still quite big in the States (or atleast that's the impression I get), whereas over here (UK) no-one gives a flying fuck about them, they are a joke.

Outside of Sheffield, they can't play arenas and would have to play clubs instead.

Out in my neck of the woods, they're clubbing it. Best they've done recently is the PGE Ballpark, and that was when they were touring with Bryan Adams and playing baseball stadiums across the U.S., or whatever that was about.

            Muff thread here I come!
Heheh. Cute. Of course, neither can your heroes Def Leppard. Dio and Def Leppard both most recently played at the SAME VENUE here locally, the last time both were around.

The difference is that Dio was sold out the day of his show and I had to buy a ticket off of a scalper outside. We were still tossing the idea of picking of Def Leppard tickets an hour before the show. And like most others, didn't.

            See ya.

What exactly is Vivian's problem with Ronnie, anyway?

Is it just another gripe over money, like Daisley/Kerslake/Osbourne?

Pretty much. Vivian was out of sync with where Dio was going in 1985 and hated everything about the "Sacred Heart" album. Now, to hear Vivian explain it, Sacred Heart was "radio friendly crap" and very "weak" musically.

                Oh, the irony

Anyway, Vivian has said in more than a few interviews that he felt he was due a bigger slice of the Dio pie, since they were doing very good business at the time and he felt he was a major player in that...and maybe he was...either way, he WAS in a band with the lead singer's last name, and that's that as far as I'm concerned. There was never any confusion about that, as opposed to the Osbourne/Daisley/Kerslake incident where the band was originally supposed to BE a band (Blizzard of Ozz) with a four way split until Sharon and Jet Records altered the deal at the last possible second. In the Osbourne camp back in 1980, there was a lot of misrepresentation - not so in the Dio band, where the Ronnie James Dio solo act was well defined (especially so since Ronnie had been getting some flack as "Singer For Hire" due to the Elf/Rainbow/Sabbath history he'd already had).

In order to up his paycheck, in 1986 he basically quit talking to Ronnie and Wendy (Dio, Niji Management, Ronnie's wife) after the Sacred Heart tour was (finally) over. He apparently figured that if he didn't answer the phone, they'd take that as notice that it was time to renegotiate his contract for bigger bucks. As it were, he eventually received a letter drafted from the desk of Wendy Dio that if she or Ronnie didn't hear from him within the month, he was effectively severed from the Dio family and Niji Management and could look for work elsewhere since he wasn't speaking with them.

Apparently, in Vivian Campbell's world, this is poor business management on Ronnie's part, so he basically went out to find other gigs (Whitesnake, Riverdogs, Shadow King, et al); Ronnie went ahead with Craig Goldy in 1986, put out the "Intermission" EP to get Craig a little studio time and have a document of the Vivian Campbell era, and that was about it. In the time since, Vivian's spouted off about Ronnie at any opportunity.

At least, when he's not been busy "beating up Glenn Danzig" and other dubious achievements...

By and large, Ronnie's kept his mouth shut about it for about 20 years or so...until recently at any rate.

In a nutshell, Vivian thinks he should have been making as much cash as Ronnie and Wendy did. It's explicitly Ronnie's band and everybody else is hired help, so that wasn't happening. Vivian's been a bitch about it for years.

Vivian got paid what he originally signed for, according to his own admission; he just got bitchy when he couldn't be making more...

There are a lot of magazine articles and interviews which basically summarize this. It's a combination of Metal Edge, Guitar World, Rip, Hit Parader and Kerrang interviews with Ronnie, Vivian, Vinny, Jimmy Bain and etc.
