Probably the same case with Chicago as it is with Deep Purple - who gets in?

I'd agree that the original band qualifies, but anything after Terry Kath died really doesn't pass for rock n roll. Yeah, the Chicago 17 stuff wasn't any worse than Van Hagar, really, but if we keep lowering that bar, someone will induct fucking Shaun Cassidy by next year.

just to clarify, but these are just the nominations. I think the actual inductees are announced in December.

however, I'd put Kiss down as a lock. whenever there's been a popular group that gets passed over (like, I dunno, VH), they always get in the first time they're nominated. probably due to the larger voting group. whereas the nominees come from Jan Wenner and two of his buddies locked in a room somewhere.

Kiss will get in, but that Sick Things clip should be inducted on it's own...AWESOME!

I'm not at all big on KISS but I agree with Stanley the whole "institution" is a joke. Paying over $20 to see a pair of jeans Marky Ramone puked on from some lost tour doesn't really strike me as being rock 'n' roll. And as for that Buggles display when you walk in the door - eh, it's cute but really needs to go.

As usual, with each year an act gets nominated they mix the good, bad and the downright fuck-ugly. Genesis!?!? For one, Genesis stopped being an act back in 74 when Gabriel left the group and again in 78 after the departure of Steve Hackett. Collins dropped their heavy prog roots and turned the (remaining) three-piece into one of the most annoying, corporate-driven commercial Top 40 acts since...well, ABBA. Yeah, nothing say "rock 'n' roll" anymore like complete sell-out

And the Red Hot Chili Peppers? After the death of Hilel they quickly became one-trick pony act if there ever was one. Oooooh, so rock 'n' roll that is.

Whatever your take, Genesis is worthy!

In fact, why even bother calling it the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame anymore?

With the majority of this year's nomination why not just re-name that building eye sore "The Adult Soft-Rock" Hall Of Fame? Or, "The Contemporary Top 40 Nostalgia Hall Of Fame"?

Sorry, but when I think of rock 'n roll ABBA and Genesis aren't the first things that come to mind.

Uh, yes I have. Especially the Gabriel years of Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot. Can say I like any of it but have definitely heard those records. Now, if they are being inducted pre-1975 I can understand because from 79 on they were Adult Contemporary Shit.

I mean, we're talkin' 'bout Freddie Mercury, for fucks sake...

Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Yes it is. 69-78 Genesis was Genesis. After that is was Phil Collins & Friends.

I would tend to agree, I was disappointed overall when I went a couple of years ago...

KISS was the biggest band in the land at their peak. Definatley deserving. they took theatrics and show to a new level while maintaining kick as rock. '74-'79.

Choke this down from KISS' site.

.....But the group's Paul Stanley recently noted that a Rock Hall induction would cause he and his longtime KISS partner Gene Simmons to consider which of the group's members they'd like to have enter with them.

"There's been a lot of people who've been a part of this, some longer than others..and some who deserve recognition more than others," Stanley explained. "Even the non-makeup years produced some platinum and double-platinum albums, and we had some very healthy sales in terms of albums and concerts through the '80s and '90s. So if we should ever be asked to accept induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it would be something to think about." The Foundation determines which members of a band are inducted into the Hall, and the ballot lists the four founding members of KISS, including Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
