    Underrated bass players thread

Sure, bass players in general are "underrated" compared to the frontmen and the guitarists. Unless you're a standout like John Entwistle, Geddy Lee, Billy Sheehan, or Jaco Pastorious.

What inspired this thread was me listening to KZOK and they were playing some old Chicago, and I'd forgotten how good Peter Cetera was - at least before he became the king of the 80's cheese ballad.

And while I'm at it, Terry Kath might well be the most underrated guitarist ever (other than Phil Keaggy)

            Mars Cowling of Pat Travers.

I talk to Billy Cox occasionally. I don't see him a lot, but he is going to be on the 4th edition of the Experience Hendrix tour in March with Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Brad Whitford, and a truckload of other guitarists. Naturally he was pretty tore up when Mitch Mitchell died. He IS a badass motherfucker on bass.

Keith Richards is the best rhythm guitarist on the planet, but he ain't no slouch on the 4 string either.

"Sympathy for the Devil" - that was all Keith. Also "Live With Me" on Let It Bleed, "Before They Make Me Run" on Some Girls, and "Happy" on Exile.

Unfortunately, none of those have videos, so this will have to do......

Geezer definitely belongs on the list for War Pigs alone.

The intro to that song is actually very tough to nail. I've seen many bass players fall out of the pocket trying to play that intro.

                              Roger Glover.

Especially his early Deep Purple period, the playing on "Made in Japan" is amazing.
