That's a great tune by them, too. Danko was so underrated as a musician! Elvis Costello recently said that when he first started the only vocalist he looked to for inspiration and guidance was Danko doing his best to try to sound like him.

Ah, but no love for Fred Smith?

I always LOVED Television and their whole "proto-punk" stylings. Verlaine's voice can grate on my nerves at times but it's made up by Richard Llyod's incredible fret work. I always loved Lloyd's tone, too. Simple balls out Strat with little gimmickry and egotism. Here Verlaine just looks like a corpse

Yeah, one of the funkiest bass lines ever played by an English white guy, for sure.

I talk to Billy Cox occasionally. I don't see him a lot, but he is going to be on the 4th edition of the Experience Hendrix tour in March with Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Brad Whitford, and a truckload of other guitarists. Naturally he was pretty tore up when Mitch Mitchell died. He IS a badass motherfucker on bass.
if you want to hear some of Billy's playing that you've likely never heard before,
check out the trib I drum with from time to time...

Before I joined, the lead man (Darrell Fields) recorded an album of original blues tunes,
with 2 of Jimi's tunes on the end, to tie the cd into his tribute act.

For the sessions on those two tunes, they got Billy Cox,
and we have those tunes up on the site..

"Hear My Train A Comin" and "Voodoo Chile"....

Man he is solid as a rock...and you can hear it on those tunes,

VERY underrated, but not among those who understand, ya know?

People tend to focus on Noel, and Noel Redding is phenomenal,
but Billy was just so fucking smooth, man, you can't ever deny that.
JIMI knew...even when he got Mitch back and trimmed his band back to a 3 piece, he kept Billy...

I never got to meet him, (this was all before my tenure began..)
and have only spoken with him (and his wife) on the phone a few times late last year.

He is a drummer's bass player, & a GREAT player in my opinion .
I hope I get the priviledge of jamming with him someday.
