A few you don't hear too much fanfare about...

    Dusty Hill of ZZ Top
    James Dewar of Robin Trower
    Jack Bruce of Cream
    Paul Harwood of Mahogany Rush

My favorite though has always been Billy Cox. His work on Band of Gypsys, Cry of Love/First Rays of the New Rising Sun, Rainbow Bridge, etc... is simply amazing bass work!! Freedom and Astro Man are a couple of stand-out performances!!

Andy Fraser from Free. One of the most inventively melodic bassists ever, it was Fraser's job to fill up many of the holes in the minimalist blues-based sound the band created. Rudy Sarzo pretty much made an entire career out of copying his every move, yet never quite grasped Fraser's playing skill.

This thread would not be complete without the late great Ronnie Lane.

Those guys look like they are having so much fun....they also look "amazed" that they actual made it through the song. One of my top 5 fantasy bands I wish I was in.

Underated no.... not Claypool, but I wanted to find the bassist for Gary Wright's Dream Weaver and I cannot find it anywhere.

Not going to post vid that is because you can only find it on a home digital I mean the sound I mean ...Ytube sucks..

Since the advent of digital disks I still cannot find a better bassline -Dream Weaver.-. if you dial out some mid and really listen it just gets me thumping real cool

I am also wondering if Dream Weavers Bass was on the moog...?

            any help welcome....

According to Wikipedia, that album was all Gary Wright and his synthesizer, except for the drums which were played by Jim Keltner. (Drum machines weren't very convincing in 1976, so I guess he had to concede that much to conventional instruments)

Yeah, Wright played almost the entire album on keyboards, including the bass. When the album came out, this was heralded as quite an achievement. He pulled the same trick on the follow-up album, but by then the novelty had worn off. And yes, that is a Moog used for the bass parts.

                  thanks you two.

I just love the bass sound and the note timing it sounds so clean and down.

Perhaps, I don't have the ear to distinguish between real and synth or is it that close..?

                  rock on

Lemmy. Because he plays bass with attitude, he was up on stage with some hot ass. Try doing that being an accountant with a big ugly boil on your face.

Yeah I screwed up there. Duran had some good songs and could play well live. John once said the music was always important and they took it seriously but they also took their looks and the shallowness of it all seriously and rolled in it and enjoyed every bit of it.
