You know? the very fact that, that when Van Halen got inducted, and these were the two that accepted? speaks fucking volumes.
Hagar fucking MURDERED Van Halen, and anything that it ever resembled in it's healthy prime. He then proceeded to rape it's fucking corpse for the next 10 or so years.
To see him even up there, smiling with a fucking grin and accepting an award for that? Is a fucking disgrace.
That sums it up. Honoring this guy for his efforts in Rock N' Roll is a bit like honoring Hitler with the Nobel Peace Prize.
Yes, I know that's extreme. But, christ.
Hagar and Anthony, by then not even in the band, standing up there with grins on their faces and totally oblivious as to how retarded they looked showing up when the rest of the band didn't.
Roth apparently wanted to show up and perform, but the story went that Velvet Revolver couldn't be bothered to learn or play the song Roth wanted to (I think he wanted to play Jump). So basically Roth was more than welcome to show up and pay his $10k for a seat at a table, but would have no say on any of the performance input.
Really? Van Halen were the ones being inducted, yet Velvet Revolver were dictating the terms of the performance of the Van Halen material played that night? And to top it all off, Velvet Revolver did such a shitty job of playing anyway that it wasn't like Roth performing with them could have been any worse...
I'm glad the Van Halens and Roth didn't turn up.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

There was some fine stuff on the Illusions albums, as well.
At least with GnR there was a rock band on MTV that had a bit of an aura of danger about them again.
Yeah, I'd agree Axl has a distinctive voice and lyrical approach. The thing about it is that that massive level of success just sent Guns and Roses over the cliff. Not that they're the first rock stars to allow ego gratification and fame push them over the edge, but most bands didn't attain that huge level of success on their debut album...most bands had been kicking around for several years before their first album was recorded. And even after the first album was released, most bands weren't going from opening band status to headlining status before their first major tour dates in support of their debut album ended.
GnR, man...Appetite just fucking exploded. It was just too much for the whole band to handle.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

Velvet Revolver got old after the first 2 songs. I love Scott Weiland with STP, and I love Slash with GN'R. But at a certain point it was like "Stop it. Reunite with each others bands, and fucking stop it".
just revisiting that night. Why was it that group that got to induct Van Halen? Why not Jerry Cantrell? The dudes from Motley Crue? You know, someone who I'd think would have grown up with them moreso than the VR guys. I mean, Slash doesn't play like EVH, you don't hear any of EVH's influence in his style.
Lets also say this, say EVH is sober, and ready to go. Does he tell MA and Sammy to GTFO? Do Dave, Al, and Ed ham it up for good times, and play a few tunes?Still waiting for a relevant Browns TeamComment

In the late 1980s, Rose and the rest of Guns were a breath of fresh air coming on the heels of several years of MTV-induced LA glam metal bands and power ballads.
There was some fine stuff on the Illusions albums, as well.

I have seen gnr a few times.
Last year I seen the ozzy and slash show.
The guy singing for slash sings gnr songs better than axle ever did.
Axle sucks live.

Appetite is a fucking great album , watched them at donnington in 88 and thought wow these are good , then illusions which is good but if ya trimmed the fat would have made one single epic album. Some of the shit on it coma/estranged is out there for a trad rock album ... But fuck knows what happened after that . Axl has talent no doubt , but as Dave said about ed without a guitar in his hand ed is a shitty human being .. Seems to some up axl if u substitute guitar for mike.fuck your fucking framingComment

Yes, but Van Halen had been around the block a bit longer and paid more dues than GnR did prior to the release of Van Halen 1. Plus, Van Halen 1 had a strong initial release but then a gradual, steady period of sales which eventually netted them a diamond award. Appetite sold much faster in the first few years of being released. Not a comment on which band is better. Just factual data.
Plus, Van Halen were locked into a much more shitty record deal than GnR were, so Van Halen didn't have the luxury of farting around to record a follow-up, whereas GnR were able to rewrite their terms with Geffen after Appetite exploded.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment
