I remember seeing Ted Nugent in some reality show about a rock supergroup. Forget what it was called - do any of y'all know what I'm talking about? He was on lead guitar, Scott Ian of Anthrax was on guitar, Jason Bonham on drums, some porno movie director guy who played bass when not making porno movies was on ... yep, bass. And Sebastian Bach was on vocals ... and winding-up Ted Nugent duties. He was the funniest thing about an otherwise dreary and formulaic reality show.

The premise was that all these well-know players would arrive at a house in some out-of-the-way location, without knowing who would be in the band, and form a supergroup. Except they weren't all that well-known to each other. When Jason Bonham turned up as the second band member (only Nugent had arrived before him), he went to shake Ted's hand. "What's your name, boy?", Ted said like some pissed off neighbourhood dad who didn't like this youngster with earrings and tattoos. "Jason", replied Bonham. Nugent remained unaware for some time that this was Son of Bonham.

They all had to live together in this big house, and eat breakfast, dinner, etc, together. Ted was a bit of an uptight dude - liked going to bed early, and got very annoyed when Sebastian Bach played his hifi too loud. I was reminded of that monologue on 'Double Live Gonzo' when Ted exclaimed to his audience:

"anybody came here to be mellow, you can turn around and get the fuck out."

When I was 15 that really used to impress me. So, how weird (or maybe not) that it would be The Nuge himself who lived up to his own dictum, as proclaimed on late-70s concert ads:

"if it is too loud, you are too old".

He was also exceedingly uncomfortable when the porno bass player guy brought some of his tattooed actresses around for a video shoot. Ted's wife was there, and he wasn't happy about all these scantily-clad bad girls hanging around. If Ted's wife was the one he adopted when she was 15 - because he craved that poontang just a bit too much - I have to tell you all that she had all grown up by this time, which was about 2003-04.

I used to own half a dozen or so Nugent albums, and while some tunes that come on the radio still sound good - Stranglehold, Free for All, Flesh and Blood - whatever he did musically has now been overshadowed by the politics.

And, yeah - sounds like cats fighting.
The show was SuperGroup, the city was Las Vegas, the group was called Damnocracy, and Evan Seinfeld (ex-Biohazard) was the bassist.

I am sure I am squarely in the minority here but I actually liked quite a few Damn Yankees tunes. Not that cheesy one from that music video, but there were some good tunes here and there.

Ted, I've never really gotten into. A few good tunes but not enough to put him on my radar. His political viewpoints just make me less interested in finding out more.

Ted's a decent guitar player. His first solo album is a classic. But he went downhill from there. His ego got the best of him after that album came out. He had a view decent tunes after that but he tended to let the little head do the songwriting instead of the big head. I saw him in concert a few times. I used to joke with my friends that it would be really cool if Ted exploded at the end of the concert when he'd hold his guitar up and hold that one shrill note for what seemed like hours sometimes. The more I hear about Ted the more I dislike the guy. Ted and Hagar are somewhat alike. They both had one decent album. (Montrose, Montrose) and they both have a tendancy to run their mouths too much. If Sam would have left the bad mouthing of Dave to Ed and Alex during the Van Hagar years people would only dislike him for his crappy music.

I am not fond of Nuge's views on some things, nor do I give a fuck if he is considered to be a "great" guitarist. The bottom line is, he has written some great rock riffs on the guitar. I loved "Double Live Gonzo" way back when it came out, and I still love it today. How could anyone not like the riff to "Stranglehold"?

We used to go to the "Whiplash Bash" on New Years Eve down at Cobo every year. Great times.

And yes, Jimmy McCarty is the best guitarist from Detroit.

Nugent's exact quote regarding Jim McCarty....
"I'm the only guy in rock'n'roll that plays that hollow body jazz guitar and it's because in 1960 I saw Jimmy McCarty creating those big fat full chords like I do on "Stranglehold"; I learned that from Jimmy McCarty. Remember the name Jimmy McCarty. He is as important as Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry and Les Paul...a god on guitar."
Probably about the only quote I could copy and paste from him without adding a puke smiley.

My opinion is Bob Seger is the best rocker to come out of Detroit. Just wish he toured more outside of his part of the country.

The best rocker to come out of Detroit isn't quite a household name yet, but I knew her when...

Maybe you had to be a 13 yr old when Nugent was in his prime to appreciate his music. I really never saw the appeal....always thought his songs were so-so. Not saying the guy has no talent, just never did much for ME.

I always liked the groove and flangy bass of Stranglehold. I remember being surprised to hear that was a Ted song. Nothing else he did ever appealed to me.
